Double Bass Schoeps mic

Hey all. Do any of you know anything about this setup? The Schoeps website really doesn't say anything about what applications are appropriate for their stuff and this is my first time seeing this particular mic... Looks expensive and intriguing

Looks like a side address cardiod for vocals. I remember they have a good sheet that covers most products and will post that link when I find it.

The price appears to be decent. Should hopefully include the Lemo to XLR adapter cable, which are quite expensive at $84 for a 5m cable. Here's a CCM 4 for the same price on Ebay + 20 Euro shipping (in Italy) Schoeps ccm4 Microphone Cardiod Miniatures Original... | eBay

IMHO, it's not a vocal mic...it's a general purpose mic with a slight boost centered around 10khz, that is useful for vocals. I believe V in the model number stands for "vertical (side-addressed)" rather than vocal. The idea is with the mic's body vertical, the pickup pattern is to the side. Maybe it makes more sense in Deutsche.

If you compare the CCM 4V to the CMC6 with the MK 4V capsule, the response appears to be almost identical. So it's basically a mini, integrated version of the CMC6 MK 4V.

As you see...all of the side address mics have a bit of a boost around 10K. Probably not optimum for upright, but probably not that huge of deal.

Whether you go with the integrated CCM amplifier/capsule or separate CMC6 amplifier plus a capsule would depend on whether you see the need for multiple patterns. If you only want one pattern, I think the CCM is going to be cheaper, but if you want multiple patterns, you might come out ahead buying the CMC6 and whichever capsules you want.

The frequent reference I see here is to Larry Grenadier using a CMC6 MK41 combination.

yeah that's true... and it's also a kind of "dream"-mic for me.....no.. I don't believe to get a sound not even close to the sound of Larry Grenadier....

I'm always surprised that AC likes to use an SVT and 8x10 cab and has that request in his rider. Maybe it's because they're relatively common in the backline rental world...

I was running sound for a concert band tour across Siberia and one of the sound companies provided an SVT and 810 for bass on a couple of the concerts. I believe the bassist was already running his Ehrlund EAP by this time and getting fabulous results. Unfortunately the pickup and bass did not work well with the SVT. The tone was horrible and he had very little gain before feedback.

An SVT and 810 can sound awesome in a lot of different situations, but it would be among my last choices for amplifying upright bass. IMHO it's sort of the exact opposite of everything I want in an upright amp.

I've only used an SVT for DB once (festival backline). I didn't like it much but there were plenty of other sound issues so my memory may be a little tainted. That said, I'm not in a huge hurry to try that setup again.

I have a CMC6 and MK41. It's really nice mic for me but not sure it's worth for everyone to pay over $1000 . You don't really need to EQ to get decent sound. It works great at live situation. Great feedback resistance and Clear bass response. For the recording, you might have another option at better price if you know how to EQ. I like CMC6 MK41 because I'm suck at EQ stuffs but you just plug in and get decent sound. I think Frequency of CMC641 is very flat. I really don't need to EQ when I use it at a gig but I like to raise frequency at 3k or 4k to get crips sound when I do recording.

I have done some home recording and hope you can get some idea.(sorry I didn't clamped the mic well so you hear some noise during a bass solo)
