School me on Yamaha Basses

Heh it looks just like my bass!

Yeah the three small knobs are the EQ controls for the pre-amp. When they are dialed to the center detent position, the sound will be the same as when the pre-amp switch is off. If it was quieter with the switch on, then one or more of those knobs were probably turned down from neutral.

If that pawn shop were anywhere near me, I would immediately rush down there and buy that bass, it would be nice to have a spare! Where are you located anyway?

Get it if you can .

I had an 80's BB2000 , a passive P/J neck through , about ten years ago that I loved the tone and the way it played but I was using 5 strings exclusively by then so I sold it . About a month ago I picked up a new BB425 and was stretching my budget pretty thin to get it . It has that tone I liked from the BB2000 and has the B string I have to have , very nice ! All the Yamaha BB series basses I've played are at least on par with the Fender P basses and most Yamahas seem better to me .

I've been using Yamaha basses for a decade now. The MIJ Yamaha basses are of great quality. My current main bass is the TRB5pii. IMO, it compares to any Sadowsky, Lakland, Fender, Musicman, and other high-end basses that I've ever played. The electronics are excellent, the playability is exquisite, and the versatility is amazing... everything from metal to jazz. Japan no longer exports these to the US (possibly other countries), so it's rare here. I'm very fortunate to have it.

Fantastic looking bass :) As far as I know the TRBP-series are still available in Europe. I want one. Now. There was a second hand one for sale, but it was €2400. Righty.

Here's a crappy pic of my BB1100S I bought brand new in the mid 80's. Was my main bass for many years and now find's it's self as the senior member of my bass family.

Very similar to the bass you're looking at, except mine's a bolt on neck.
Three band active eq with a passive option and it still kills many basses I've played over time. I think I have had to adjust the truss twice in nearly 30 years!
If I was near you and knew of where that bass is hanging, you wouldn't have an opportunty to buy it... just sayin!

LOL...I put money down to hold it yesterday. I'm hoping to do a little trading to get the price down. I'm a locksmith and they need a safe worked on, so I told them I'd fix it if they'd knock $100 off. Going back to pick her up today.

I think they are still in the catalog and are special order items. Beautiful bass BTW!

That's a little more than they go for new in the states. I did have this bass for sale in the classifieds about a month ago. It might be for sale again in the near future if there's interest.

Great looking bass, Munji!

I was, and still am, amazed at the craftsmanship of my Yamaha TRB5P-II (maple top). Sometimes I try out "high-end" boutique basses, just to verify what a great instrument I have.

Those that have never played the TRB-P series basses don't really know of the great versatility and playability of these instruments.

Yes, they are top-quality instruments with incredible tone. Mine has the ovankol top. I've seen only one other like it.
