As big a fan as I am of the 1212L, the UL212 (and the AG212 and Eden212XLT, etc.) is a totally different thing. Of course, it's twice as big (or more), but because of that, it has that beautiful, extended low end and a much wider, bigger tone. There's a place for both the uber mid punch slam of the 1212L in that wonderful small package, and also a more traditionally voiced, wider, more even voicing of a larger more traditionally designed and voiced cab.
I view the 1212L as more similar to a REALLY loud 210 cab than to the larger 2x12's, if that makes sense.
I must admit i havent heard a 1212R or L. I figure the 1212L will be a thicker version of the 1210R (i think yo uhave said this as well). I did debate getting a 1212R to start with but Jorg rightly said the 1210 would suit me better. I still dont like 10's as i think for my pick playing the attack is too fast so quite fancy keeping the Schroder tone while getting a better low mid/low end that i would think the 2x12 would give.
Im not finding the UL212 quite gives the punch my 1210 does but as i havent actualy had the two in the same room it could just be that im used to the 1210. Certainly the UL212 has a fuller, richer tone but i miss the middy punch of my 1210 sometimes.
