Scored a new Shuttle today, small problem though

I brought a Shuttle 6.0 home today with the 112 cabinet. I've played it a few times in the past year or so at my local music store and have always liked it, but today the owner made me a ridiculous deal so I brought it home to be my small amp. My only other cab atm is a 610. Now I have a nice portable rig for many applications (and a backup head too), and I intend to pick up another 12 because that seems like it would be very sweet.

I have two complaints already, though. Firstly, the chassis rattles! Not all the time, but some frequencies set it off. Very not cool. I'm going to have to do something about this soon. This is a brand new amp. I suppose this kind of thing is a shortfall of ultralight construction, but jeez. I looked around here on TB a bit but didn't see anyone else having this issue. If I remove the head from the cabinet it doesn't buzz, but the speakon jack coming out of the box is only a few inches long and doesn't leave much room for remotely placing the head in the meantime. I can dampen the buzz by shoving a rolled up towel between the handle and the top of the head for now, but it doesn't fully eliminate and I don't want to put too much pressure on the chassis top.

The other thing I don't like, and don't quite get, is the amount of noise (hiss) that comes from having the mid scoop button or the high boost button engaged. This is annoying, but not a huge deal. I wonder if all of these heads do this to this extent.

Even still I think i'm going to love this little combo, once I work out the kinks. It sounds great with my five string and my fretless as well. I've got a gig that will be perfect for it just next week too.

1. Take it back and return it for a refund.
2. e-mailthe good folks at Genz-Benz and see what they would suggest. I found they will return your e-mail in short order. Their customer service is great.

I would act quickly.

Yeah, the owner of the music store is a friend of mine, so getting it taken care of won't be a problem one way or the other. I'm definitely going to keep the combo, it is too light and great sounding. I was just venting. It was hard for me to tell for a minute what was buzzing because at loud volumes it made many things in my house buzz!

I have owned a bunch of Genz gear including your STL 6.0, and have never had the situation you've described.

Give them a call, and I promise they will fix things up for you. They have always come through for me.

First thing to double-check is that it's not something as simple as a loose screw. THe scrwes should be snug, especiallythe side thumbscrews. Even things like the grille screws could cause a small rattle that sound like a chassis rattle.

The other thing is that if the handle could possibly rattle a little if it's not pushed down fully.

There will be a slight increase in hiss levels when the Mid Scoop and HF attack engaged, the mid scoop is an inverting additive filter (to get the appropriate feel) and when you add a negarive there will be a bit more noise. The HF attack is adding high frequency gain and any noise present before the filter (including noise from an active pickup's preamp) will be amplified.

Otherwise, give Scott a call at the shop and he will get you sorted out.

Hey, thanks a bunch for replying here! I did check these things pretty thoroughly yesterday, but I pulled it out and even checked the chassis screws just a minute ago. They all took a tiny turn tighter, but it did not solve the problem. The thumbscrews are tight and everything is snug, it is definitely the top of the chassis or something just underneath it buzzing. I suppose there could be a wire or something close to touching the top on the inside? Like I mentioned before, tucking a small rolled up cloth between the handle and the top mitigates the majority of the buzz.

I guess i'll get to check in personally on the great CS rep. of Genz now. It's all good, i'm quite happy with the combo, and i'm working on the set list now for my gig on Wednesday. It's a small beer garden, and it will be perfect for this fat little 112!

I have owned both Shuttle 3.0 and 6.0 heads.

Neither rattled or made strange noises but both would start clipping very early and over compress the sound when I got a little louder...

I ended up selling both.

Genz guys are good to deal with, talk to them and they'll do anything they can to make you a happy camper...
