Scott Edwards, top disco bass player and much more

Now most of the stuff he played on is not really my kind of music, for example he played bass on "I Will survive" but he's an excellent player and has played on a boatload of #1 hits and played with the best. I had never heard of him before today but found out about him while looking for who played bass on "I Will Survive" as I had always noticed what a great bass line is in that tune, in fact always noticed how many rhythm sections were great during the disco era. He was one of the top disco players, played on "Bad Girls" and "Hot Stuff", Donna summer, but has also done a lot of other stuff like he played on "Rhinestone Cowboy"- Glen Campbell and he even did a few T Rex tunes so you know he's versatile. Here's his website which contains a lot of information and links, there's even a link there for a documentary for the making of "I will survive" but he played on a lot of other well known tunes besides that one. He's a career P bass player as far as I can tell.

Scott Edwards is a member of Talkbass, but I do not think he is active. Donna Summer’s Hot Stuff was Disco too.;)

I heard this song a minute ago on a 70s music channel on U-Verse. What a great bass track! I've heard this many times before and always thought it was a great bass track, but I guess I never looked up the credits. Scott played on a lot of hits.

Yeah, great bass line, great sound, I have always thought of players like this as being mature players. These are the players I look up to and try to emulate even though I've never done anything like this but I grew up with Motown and got the feel for this stuff. This stuff was around before slapping really took over that scene I'm pretty sure anyway, I think these were the best times for R&B bass players at least it's my favorite stuff.

When I was in college I think my favorite fingerstyle players were Bernard Edwards, Leon Sylvers III, and TM Stevens (Narada Michael Walden.) For a while, I bought flats and turned up the mutes on my Rickenbacker 4000 so I could sound like he did on his Ric 4001.

Leon, Rick James, and Maurice made me aware of Rickenbacker bass.
Especially Rick James album cover.
