Sealing an ampeg 6x10

As it it is currently ported? Won't help your cash problem, because you'll have to replace all the speakers for it to work right. Easier to turn the bass down on your eq to achieve same effect otherwise.
Ampeg are like most bass cab makers of high standing: They tune the cabs with specific drivers in mind. Those ports factor into the tuning. If you're desperate to get a sealed cab sound - try to EQ something similar as ^^^^^ said. Don't mod the cab - you'll likely decrease performance and negatively effect tone, while damaging resale value.
I've heard a lot about EQ and it's significance - I didn't see the full effect till I started doing it by ear... Cutting the lows slightly improves the richness of the mids 200% on my cheapo 110W combo... Try it and see. Maybe you can get close - maybe not, but you should be able to get functional, deeply satisfying tones from an ampeg 610 - as long as the rest of the gear is of equal quality. I don't know that but people who do seem to think so IIRC.
You should consider upgrading / changing to a sealed cab in the long term if that's your thing, but I'd be hesitant to mess with a calibrated system like a ported cab designed by the rather skilled guys and gals at ampeg. Try and work with what you've got - remember other players (including me) would love to have that kinda cab (If it didn't weigh so much

Actually, if you are lucky, those plastic end caps for poster tubes might fit in the ports and you can plug them easily and just try it. Socks is the other way, but its a pain if they get sucked inside.
