Doing a search for "Elrick" over the past two weeks skips a bunch of posts that include the word Elrick (spelled properly) that have been made during that time. For example, a bunch of the posts in the Elrick vs. Roscoe thread don't appear Any reason for this?

Before recently, it did :D I've been using the search on a near daily basis for almost six years here, and it will usually get everything when you limit the search date parameters. Paul recently changed how the search works (no in quotations searches, which I greatly miss), so I wonder if this is part of it.

Yup- there's no more phrase match or operators anymore. And I never use the Google search because it's not able to be sorted by forum or date, so it's useless if you want to search the current classifieds for example. Paul had to do it as the forum post count got so high, although I'd honestly prefer to get rid of the old posts that are either out of date or no one reads because they are at the far, far end of the search spectrum in trade for a more useful, current set of search features.

Yeah, it gets frustrating seeing threads where noobster says "Wat is the best XYZ unit" and I get all revved up and say "do a search noobster" and they reply "I did, no luck" and I check it out and they're right: no luck.

Wow, thanks for the head's up - I neglected to turn back on the search indexer after doing some server work last weekend - so nothing from Sun-Thurs was turning up in ANY search :(

It's back up now and you should see your results.

BTW, I forgot to ask- I know the new search brings up topics that you said could be very slightly out of chronicological order- what is the range of that "very slightly"? I know that I've been getting results for certain things that have many results that are two months apart from each other mixed together (looking up "Bergantino" in the Amps classifieds for example).

It's impossible to say specifically - if you search in this manner, VBulletin applies a lot of 'algorithms' to determine how high in the search results a certain thread (depending on the 'quality' of the hit).

If a chronological result set is very important, try doing an advanced search for Bergantino, specify the Amps forums, sort results by date, and check "show results as posts".
