Searched for tubes but can't see

all the tubes in my American made SVT-VR w/o dismantling. I see 6-KT-120's (obviously upgraded) and
2-12AU7 and 1-12AX7 drivers, but can't see the preamps. Do I remove all the tubes to I see the other 3?

Yeah. IIRC, the preamp on an SVT is kind of hidden behind all that glass.

Also, KT-120s aren't cheap. You got a pretty good deal if it came with those in it!

What kind of power do you get out of an SVT with KT120's? I imagine since it has a separate filament transformer that the filament load would be OK on it, right?

You're not going to get more power unless you go to a larger power transformer with more VA.

The preamp tubes are mounted in the upper pre-amp chassis. You have to remove that to access them.

JimmyM - Really don't know what the comparison output might be with KT-120's versus 6550's. This is my first SVT-VR and have yet to experiment with other tubage.
