Searching Artifakt Elements, new sounds from Source Audio

A few months on how are people getting on with their artifakt on bass?

I know Quatschmacher was saying the filter is really good - Given source audio stuff always sounds pretty good what else have people found good?
Distortion? Flange? Chorus? Reverb? Mini Cab sim eq curve? Comp?
(For bass im probably thinking of it more as a multi effect than really wanting to recreate the sound of a p bass through a vintage radio!)

Wondering how many pedals it can take off my board (even given one time based at a time)

This video has an interesting bass line in the intro. His dive into the ladder filter is great too. Ironically, this may be our best filter pedal. It is our best chorus pedal.

Maybe. It has a simple compressor, LFO, Ladder Filter like a subtractive synth filter (resonance + cutoff), Tremolo, Reverb and Modulation (Chorus, Flanger etc), Noise, Glitch, Old Gear module (which is really an EQ module with HPF and LPF, sp possibly you can simulate a cab), envelope filter generator, distortion, ring mod and bit crusher).
Then you have this the Glitch module which is like a mini sampler that plays it back in certain patterns and auto-generated. Then 2 additional lofi wave generators which are independent of the input signal, the Signal Failure (aka radio) and Vinyl modules. I think you can turn all of them at once, I have not tried. You can program the 4/5 knobs, one of the footswitch and 1 switch to adjust other parameters other than default. The one knob actually is multi function and is controlled by the switch under it, so that's 6 knobs and then you can attach an expression pedal. So that's hpow much hands on control you have.

However, they made it easy by the introduction of that middle knob which gives you 7 starting modes and then the 4(6) knobs, bandwidth switch and option footswitch have their own default adjustments when you select any of these hardwired starting modes. So even without the editor, you can use this pedal right away. It comes with 4 slots to store presets but with the editor you can get to the 12 other ones with the factory presets and these 16 slots you can overwrite. So you can use this live and be productive.

Instead of diving on using the editor - I am just using this pedal using the starting modes. For most non experimental gigs, the Tape, uVerb and Ladder are useful right out the gate. And these 3 have more than one effect

Here are some screenshots. Download the Neuro and add the pedal to see the controls to give you an idea what you are getting.

Reverb/Delay types: (includes the modulation -- so you can only have one type active - modeled to be analog

@Luke the Fluke and @rsmith601 I have been using the Artifakt in several ways. I have presets that I have created and shared for specific bass tones with the controls having useful functions for my needs to quickly dial in bass tones [Radio Bass, Big Tape, Readio Fretless and Bass One Stop]. Then there are a couple of fun effects [Wing Time, Taz Makes Bad, Nastee Monday and Stormy Nebula}. Bass One Stop was a ground up creation with different parameters assigned to the controls to make getting the right bass for a mix quickly.
On the production and synth side I have been using the various engines to add processing to recordings mainly to add to the listening experience.

During testing I even just used it as an EQ with some compression for a fat clean tone. And yes, the filter is great and made me feel ok selling my MuTron Microtron IV.

As Roger says, the chorus is lovely and I’m using that on my second board which is just for (keyboard) synths.

and @Derek Williams …

The coolest video I’ve seen so far is this one where the reviewer looks like he’s been building his own patches

I've unfortunately had a lot of stuff going on personally, and haven't really been active here or with getting anywhere with doing a deep dive on pedals. I'll be back eventually!

Looking for some input here, especially if anyone can compare between the HX Stomp, Boss GX-10 (or 100) and the Artifakt.

I don't typically use a ton of effects in a band setting, but my current band definitely has room for the occasional something dark, glitchy, weird and atmospheric. And at home, I definitely experiment a bit more. I currently have an Ultrawave and two different delay pedals that I cycle through and that covers me pretty well, but I think the blocks of the Artifakt are more what I'm looking for.

I just bought a used HX stomp (can and will probably return it) as I saw the Boss GX-10 drop and got intrigued by that. But the Artifakt really speaks to me too.

I don't need the amp sims from the Stomp or Boss, they're just gravy, but I do like the all in one nature of those. 3 footswitches is probably plenty for me. If I keep the stomp or get the Boss, that would be the extent of my pedalboard and I'd sell everything else. If I get the Artifakt, it'll probably be that and a tuner and maybe the Xvive V21 (Memory Man style delay) and maybe an expression pedal.

I know the stomp and Boss pedals have more effects, but it seems like the Artifakt can cop alot of those tones and then can get into some new territory as well. It doesn't allow for changing effect order, but I don't think (don't really know) that would be super important to me.

Any info, suggestions, help is greatly appreciated.

The Artifakt is very deep with a lot of possibilities not covered by other pedals, great for creating your own sounds and textures but it is a deep dive to get to those treasures. I have a couple of sounds that are more bass specific with organic tones and then with the option for something freaky. The modulations can get very complex in ways that other pedals don't and the delays have a lot of texture. The great thing is that all the controls can be assigned to almost every function so those 5 knobs and 3 switches can give a lot of flexibility. For example I have one labelled Bass One Stop that offers control of bass, saturation, mid cut/flat/boost, treble, blend, mod speed and width and output level, I use that quite a bit and have different effects added on the option switch.

One area where a more common multi effect might be better suited is there is only one delay engine for modulation, delay and pseudo reverb so more complex sounds are not available as there is a lot of goodness by mixing those textures. For that reason I will have mine in tandem with a Zoom MS70CDR.

@bassbrad You seem to have a lot of experience with a couple of pedals I'm interested in so maybe you wouldn't mind comparing the Artifakt to the Zoom MS-70CDR+

From my previous posts, you can maybe tell I'm trying to have a small board for occasional effects use. Couple of small multi-effects units are in the running, but another alternative is to just add a pedal to my current mini-board:

Tuner —> (Artifakt OR MS-70CDR) —> Ultrawave —> Source Audio Zio

I know they're different, but to me the Artifakt and the Zoom MS-70CDR+ seem to have a pretty good overlap. I'm most interested in delay, reverb and tremolo, but all the other goodies are cool too. Drive from the Artifakt isn't that important to me as I get that from an Ultrawave.

The fact that the Zoom is a 1/3 the cost of the Artifakt is definitely a factor, but not the only factor. So, what would you recommend? Which would you say is most useful in a live setting without additional MIDI controls?

Thanks and I hope I'm not derailing this thread!

I love the versatility and function of both pedals but if I just had to choose one for all around usefulness then the Zoom MS70CDR gets the gig. I get a lot of mileage being able to use more than one effect at a time in sound design, some sounds are always on and then progress from there to add needed effects. EG my 'always on' is an ambient or small room verb but from there I can go bonkers if wanted.

While some of this can be done with the Artifakt it is more of a challenge and there isn't an option for more than one Delay/mod/pseudo reverb at a time.

Adrien Belew seems to dig it in BEAT with Tony Levin!

After listening to this pedal, it seems to be IMHO, a really good production tool if your doing a remake of "Forbidden Planet" or "Plan 9 from Outer Space" or similar. :smug:

It's amazing in its capability, but I don't see it in use for myself. I'm focusing on some things that are really more rhythm based rather than huge shifts in the tone pallet, if ya know what I mean? Synthy yes, but not flamboyantly quirky.

(Someone mentioned the Xvive V21 MMD. I want that for one specific thing and it's a rhythm thing, too.)

SA is such a fantastic operation...great stuff and people!

There’s a ton of guitar videos out there of this thing and most of them are folks just going through the built in ‘engines’ and presets - this one is either good presentation or he seems to be building his own presets to do things - which is really interesting.
I am still convinced the bass uses of this pedal will be unlocked more as ppl play with it as more a multifx thing than specific low-fi pedal! I have a significant birthday coming up just before Christmas - it’s on my list!!
