...but is anyone who is coming to this event interested in some string swapping? I've got some things that I could part with and am ready to try some regular Spirocores on my bass.

Just a heads up. I can bring my string box if anyone is interested.

It was a really fun day. More fun than I thought even. Thanks to John for openning his home to us. Well worth the drive.

Thanks to Michael for bringing a bass with no two strings alike! What a great opportunity to try a few different things. If I remember low to high; Jazzer, Anima, Heritage, SuperSensitive.

I learned how to use the EQ on my fancy amp, which I expect will make life a lot better for me.

I got to play a full set of Animas. I got to see a few people living happily with Obligatos without that rolling issue that I had. Got to see and play a few basses new and old. Amps, pickups, mics, blenders. Wow! Kid in a candy store.

Best of all, it was great to meet you all and hear you play. The bass duos and trios that we did were really fun. I had never done that before and it went much better than I wpuld have thought that it would have. I left inspired by some of the playing that I heard and am headed back to the woodshed.

I think I made it through without a GAS attack either. I did like the Full Circle. It was good to play my bass through my amp (Realist) then plug a similar bass into it with the Full Circle with the same settings. They didn't sound totally different, but I think the Full Circle might have been a little more articulate. The FC blended with the contact mic was just right, but I'm not tempted to add that much to my signal chain....yet.

Strings, which are my weakness, I think I escaped without having to try something new. I want to spend some time with my eq and various strings I already have before I tinker with them again. I definitely wasn't getting the most out of my amp.

Thanks again to everyone who came, especially those of you who drove from Tacoma or Oly. Liam, I'm bummed that you didn't make it. We'll have to hook up soon somehow.

Yes, post the picture of the EA. I'm betting those settings are a good place to start for any DB.

I've been working on Haitian Fight Song. I can tell I need to build more stamina if I want to do that for 20 minutes.

I came from Olympia.

I finally got the pictures downloaded. Here is a group photo. From left to right Standing: Dwight, John, Troy, Keith, Mike; Kneeling Derrick (a very, very good sound engineer), Hiro.

I have a couple short video clips, showing portions of a couple of different songs. How do I post those?

My apologies if I got names wrong or misspelled.

And I've seen every expression a face can make when someone plays it :eek: . I try not to tell them & watch them go for it! One guy played 2 tunes on it and never knew the difference. I couldn't understand a note he was playing. Bass could have been tuned in 2nds & he'd sound the same. Another guy who played cello for 20 years, had just taken up bass (tuned in 4ths), played my axe and SMOKED on it!
I hope to meet all you guys someday. I've always said bass players should have their own union :D
BTW: A little gig spam. I just finished playing Hiroshi's tonight. They have jazz every Friday & GREAT sushi. Buddy Catlett is there once in awhile. It's (Greg Williamson.. drums) Pony Boy records. Hiroshi's is: 2501 Eastlake, just south of Roanoke. Check out Ponyboyrecords.com for schedule. I'll be back in September sometime. Go down & talk to Greg & set in...hopefully on my bass!

I'm sorry I missed that, but I was out of town. I live 2 blocks from Hiroshi's and I second the great sushi as well as great jazz (no cover charge!!!). There's no chance I would sit in on your bass, though. I sat in on Buddy's bass a few weeks ago, but then a singer called up Recorda Me in Eb. The bass might as well have been tuned in 5ths for the first chorus or so...

Anyway, I had a great time meeting everyone up at John's place. It was great hearing all the different basses and bassists.

The demonstration of the EQ on the Wizzy combo was really impressive and had me dreaming of parametric EQs. The last thing I need is another box and more wires, though.

I'm glad Troy enjoyed my ultimate mix and match string set, but I think it's time to simplify. Well, maybe after I try a few more things. I've got a Solo Dominant that's waiting to be installed.

The bass trios and duos were a blast. Horn players must have it so easy always having a bass behind them! It's much nicer to solo over a bass line than just "tick-tick-tick" on the high-hat.

And the Hawaiian meatballs were delicious :D

After I get moved and settled in down in NM, you guys should all make a road trip and we can do it again at my place ;)
