security software on your pc?

I haven't used any security software in at least 4 years and haven't had any issues in that time.

Really I haven't had to deal with malware/spyware viruses since way back when bearshare, and kazaa, and other p2p softwares were popular and I was stealing music, movies, and software in my younger days. Nope that 3.5 hour movie that's only 5.6kb doesn't look suspicious at all.

Everyone that's not had a problem (on PC) that doesn't go to "bad" places anymore is still at risk of an injection attack, among other attacks.

Surfing at legitimate places you can get an injection attack, through SQL injection or an ad injection like Reveton.

I don't know if Internet Explorer is better now, but I know in years past using IE was pretty much inviting the computer aids home with you.

Supposedly word on the block is its better but I'll never trust them.

That program is like sky net, as far as I'm concerned. It'll become self aware and we'll all perish.

IE10 is rated very highly in it's ability to block malware by NSS Labs, a respected independent information security research company. Here is a link to some of the studies they have released around browser security: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Oh I was just throwing that out there. IE gets a lot of hate, but Ive never had a problem with it. Firefox takes forever to open a browser on my laptop, whereas IE is quick and easy.

once in a while i will run into a problem with firefox taking forever. ones probably as crappy as the other in the grand scheme of things

I've used Trend Micro's Security for years and it works great - no problems ever. But I'm going to look into that Microsoft product since it's free.

Microsoft essentials works great... Run spybot and malware bytes scans at least once a week..also ... No antivirus software is going to catch everthing but microsoft has done a good job this time.

I haven't used antivirus software for years. Most of them (especially norton) are worse than most viruses you might get.

Just don't click on links in your emails that your dopey friends send you, don't google p0rn, don't install stupid toolbars, pretty much don't go to the dark places of the internet and start clicking things.

My boss's computer gets unbearable once every couple months or so. Doesn't help that its kind of old and he's running Norton on it. Its almost unbearable even when nothing is wrong.

I run Microsoft security essentials as well. Free and no problems at all. I just leave the computy turned on and it does the rest.

Once in the last two years it found a problem and neutralized it.

I guess the story is that Microsoft wanted to give basic protection to those unable or unwilling to pay for AV software. Seeing that their product was so widespread and vulnerable, they came up with this.

Actually, some routers, if he has one, act as a built in firewall and work just fine.
