Hi All,
Yes, Paddy is right, it is a Schack. I have an active/passive push/pull on the volume knob. The toggle switch is for the led.s which are green.

I went for the nordstrand pups to get a slightly more aggressive sound (my other Sei.s both have Bart.s).

It sounded wonderful at the Gallery but there it was plugged into an Epifani. Where I rehearse I only have the use of an old Peavey combo which sounds like a weak fart. I must get my Trace Elliot rig up there soon (this is difficult because it won't fit in my car - DOH).
then I will hear it in its full glory I hope.

Paddy, Yes we must meet up soon. It will be interesting to see how it plays and sounds compared to yours as my build spec was largely based on yours.

Howie, that bass is a stunner. GASGASGASGASGAS........(my GAS period seems to be shortening these days, it's ridiculous. Used to be once a year, it's now down to about 3 months...). I'm down the Gallery on Tuesday (national rail allowing) so if anybody is about I may bump into you. I'll be the one drooling over something or other.....;)

It's my fretted Buckeye Burl faced Singlecut 5: Nordstrand Fatstacks housed in wooden covers (mahogany bases with cocobolo tops), Demeter 3 band EQ system. White side dot LED's.

I am selling it as I am playing the fretless Singlecut 5 all the time now - and an instrument this good needs to be PLAYED!!!

Wow, I'm amazed you're selling that Kevin; I hope I get to play it when I'm there next week. Or maybe that wouldn't be a good thing ;). Although I do have 4 Rics, 1 could go....:hmm:

At least I now know exactly what I'll be drooling over!

Er, wow, Kevin - your new fretless must be ridiculously good if you are selling that baby!?

Well having just got one of these beautiful basses all I can say is - if you want a killer bass that will not only play great, sound great and also be the envy of just about every bass nut out there then I'd 'Sei' this is worth every penny... Kev maybe stick a notice on the Basschat market place - you'd no doubt get some interest, maybe even a quick-ish sale...

I must try and get a look and feel of the stunner while I still can. As for my SC - it just keeps getting better, and easier to play all the time - it really compliments the feel of my fretless as well - in that both basses kind of help me get used to playing the other. Sounds weird but basically because the width of the Sei neck is greater than the fretless, it makes playing the latter easier and vice versa in that working on my phrasing and intonation on the fretless makes it even easier on the Sei, so it's all god. The Thumb bass is now slightly ornamental in its purpose - but then I have played the crap out of it for 18 years... time for a change.

Mike, that was really awful. Very punny. :D

Kev - Congrats on the new Sei... wish I had the means to take the singlecut off your hands - it's kinda the "brother" to my singlecut, and I think the buckeye top was the next one on the pile after mine. But whoever ends up with it is getting themselves an amazing instrument.

No joy in my search for my old Sei yet... hopefully it'll surface one day!

Hey another newbie! Congrats fella - I saw your bass many times while mine was being built as well, we share the same chunk of buckeye burl me thinks... dude get some better pics, it looks great - how are you finding playing it? What were you specs again? Looks like mahogany wings, ans was it a maple neck with mahogany stringers? She's great - I hope you are happy.

Thanks guys - mum is doing brilliantly well and as for the little bass munchkin - he gets cuter by the minute - and he's being incredibly well behaved (I know it won't last! - here's the all important pic:

The nice thing is he's used to the sound of my bass as throughout the pregnancy mummy Alison was always aorund when I was practicinf - plus we managed to get to Ronnie Scott's the week before he was due - so whether he ends a muso or not - at least he'll have heard some great music along the way.

Hey congrats Mike! He's waaay cute, even without a buckeye top ;). Nice to be reminded that there's something more important than basses...I tend to forget! All the best!

Popped in the Gallery yesterday to have "Melt" (no, not me!) tweaked - it's utterly blinding now, even better than before. Played pretty much everything in the shop as usual, and as usual the Seis came out tops. Played Kevin's; absolutely stunning and a great woody tone. Made the mistake of playing the Millenium 6 which blew my mind (and nearly broke my already troubled back!). Picking it up it didn't seem that heavy, but putting it on...I'm still not right today! But what a bass, possibly the best I've ever played, although Melt runs close (I'm discounting my 72 Ric because that isn't a bass, it's a sentient being;) ). I'm a big maple fan, and all that maple combined with the Buckeye top and the custom pickups /electronics just sound incredible. And it plays mind-bogglingly. If my back could cope, I'd have sold a couple of basses and bought it, but unfortunately my damaged discs disallow (how's that for alliteration?). What I do know though is that my next Sei (when funds allow) will be a Series 2 Singlecut with a maple body and buckeye top, and I'll try and talk Martin into a similar electronics package to the Millenium. I may fail, but I'll try!

Nah, actually they seemed pretty new....but maybe they weren't. ;) What I meant was it was more woody than my 4 or the Millenium, which I would expect with mahogany instead of maple. I always seem to find that maple just seems to work better for the sound I'm after, but I'd say your bass was one of the top 2 in the shop, which is pretty good going considering what's in there!

Thought it was a fabulous bass Kevin. The only thing I found is, having never played a Series 1 s/cut before, I prefer how my Series 2 sits, even allowing for the fact that it's a 4. But whoever gets it will be getting a monster bass!
