Mornin' fellas - I just made a couple of better youtube vids with my Sei and my new Boss loop pedal - the bass sounds good!

Thanks fella - the first tune on my Myspace page has the Sei's first recorded bass line and slappy solo on it it's called Sing Your Own Anthem and it's kinda cool IMHO

Paddy, Sorry I didn't see your message 'til too late. It would have been good to meet, especially at the Gallery. I also had to go to the in-laws straight from there.

To say that I am happy with it is a gross understatement. It is everything I hoped for and more.

I will take some photos over the weekend and post them asap along with a review.

Howie I'm so pleased for you, especially given the concerns you had. I think there is nothing like a custom made bass when it is has been made to your own specification (second hand custom basses somehow are not quite the same). It's just hard to remember this after months of waiting!

So if I can't knick your new bass, I'll just have to wait patiently for the Sei 9...

Mike, checked out the clips and your Sei sounds amazing (looks amazing too)! You've got a lovely Garrison-esque growl going on there. Beautiful. I'd love to try that bass one day (as I've said to you before, may get one of my own down the line, when I can no longer support the weight of my Alembic...). BTW, what pickups have you got in there again?

Actually, that brings me to an issue I've mentioned to Mike before; I'm not happy with my Sei through my current rig (Ashdown ABM/Aguilar GS112s). Not only is it only just about working for my Rics (my bread & butter basses) - upgrade maybe on the way, see ramblings elsewhere - but it doesn't do my Sei justice at all. Played my Sei in the Gallery through Mesa Walkabout head and neo cabs (so so), and through EBS (unbelievable). Unfortunately I can't seem to get any real midrange punch and real zing from it with my gear; it's either woolly, flat & polite, or just plain glassy. Does anyone else have the problem of needing 2 different rigs at once? I only use the Sei at home at the moment because it doesn't work for my band; I use my Rics for that and my Sei for more Mike-style noodling at home. 2 rigs wouldn't be a problem, but the missus isn't happy with the one!

Perhaps get something with less character, so you get the sound of your basses more rather than having the amp adding its signature sound to yours.

I find my Bergantino IP rig sounds amazing with anything, it's tonally very neutral, so it lets my basses shine through.

I've thought about that, but tend to like a coloured sound with my Rics (think Squire et al); whenever I play through something more neutral (eg Markbass) they don't sound like I want to. Of course that doesn't help my Sei problem! Looking into different cabs at the mo and everything is always in flux anyway...we'll see.

Re amps which give you good mid-range tones I swear by my Epifani - it really does bring out the mids in the most unbelievable way - but I'm still using my old EBS Proline 1x15 and the Epi 502 makes even that thing sound sweet as well. If you can find one you might get a second hand one like I did - hate to say it but I paid £550 for mine in mint condition second hand - they are around - have a look over at Basschat.co.uk - lots of Epi users there - you might get lucky. Mark Bass is the otger stuff worth a go but for my money it still doesn't have the depth and warmth of Epifani...

+1 on the Bergantino's - especially with the Epi 502 - I tried that match up the other week and those Bergantino cabs are sweet - the heads are shockingly good as well - I will add the Epi stuff just warms things up bit doesn't colour the sound that much.

Cool, cheers Mike. I may hold you to that! I'm actually hoping to get down in the not too distant future (still got what appears to be a high fret on the Sei which needs a little work) so I'll let you know when it comes off. No worries if you can't do it. You've doubtless played mine!

The thing I'm finding (and I found this in the Gallery when I bought the bass) is that the Rics and the Sei just do not like the same gear. The best sounding rig I've played the Sei though was the EBS TD650 through the 1x15 (probably the same one you've got) - what a sound! Played my Ric 4001CS through it and it sounded pants. Alternatively, tried both through an Ampeg valve stack they had in; the Sei sounded poor and the Ric sounded much better. Oh well....! Will check out new gear next time I get down there (if not before...)

Hey man - what's happening with those piccies? Sorry I guess you can't tear yourself away from playing the lovely thing that is you bass... I really enjoyed playing it when I was at the shop (under Alex's watchful eye) it's a great bass, with a truly stonking tone - do tell us how you've been getting on with it... my SC feels sweeter by the day - it's such a wicked bass!

I am glad that you got to play it in the shop. I think that it is brilliant to be able to have a go on any Sei that happens to be in the shop. Surely no owner would mind that.

I am going to try and get a couple of photos loaded now. I took them in a hurry last night so they aren't that great.

I just love this bass I have to say. It is so easy to play.

Paddy said that the offset shape puts the bass in the right place and he's right. The strap stud being on the back makes a big difference also.

So, big thanks to Paddy. He really helped me out when I was mulling over the spec for my build. In fact he let me borrow his brand new bass for some time to aid my decision making. That is above and beyond the call of duty.
