Firstly a very warm welcome to Bill e Bob and what a lovely SEI jazz you have. I was just thinking the other day how it seemed a little while since we had any new members…hopefully you will find us a pretty friendly bunch that are not easily offended. I likewise play in my local church.

Big Red X I am seriously liking your bass, especially that fretboard! I’ve see it several times at The Gallery but for some stupid reason had not put 2 and 2 together to realise it was yours! Not long now!

Mike, the rabbit looks and sounds just great. I was very interested to hear the ebony fretboard as I have that specified for the SEI 9. Was the amp EQ set reasonably flat? Could you also remind us what the rabbit specs are (especially pickups & electrics)?

Hi dude - I think you meant Mike right? I understand that all these lovely basses could confuse the best of us - no worries.

Re the vid and ebony board - I highly recommend ebony for your fingerboard - it just makes notes ping out of the bass, really bouncy and just adds that crucial bit of bite, but doesn't sound at all harsh I hasten to add. Re the sound of the bass I had my mids up full, but with the treble pretty much all off - and on the finger style section just using the bridge pickup. It's got the most wonderful rumble in the bass frequencies but has enough mid and top end to really give a very balanced tone, plus I can dig in a little to get some sweet accented notes...

Put it this way I'm going to record some stuff with the bass soon - literally every time I pick her up and play something new happens and it just gets easier and easier to play - I love it. I just snapped some better pics today so I'll get them sorted later. I'll most likely do a 'review' for the TB review section - so much to say about my Sei!

Hi

It took me a while to work out where things were on this site and I am still learning.

In the top left corner of each post there is the persons name in blue and underlined. This is the name you click on which gives the drop down to allow you to PM. The option is the second on edown 'send a priveate message to .............'

If you click on this and follow the instructions you can then send the message.

Good luck with it. I would say PM me if you have a problem but I appreciate thats not very helpful;)

Mike, I'm so sorry...I've absolutely no idea what was (or was not) going though my head this morning :mad: :help:

Thanks for the great update re the fretboard. I really want the SEI 9 to be sonically as flexible as possible, from a huge deep punch to that edgy growly classic finger style funk sound (hence the Audere circuitry and the Delano MM style pickup in the classic MM position). Whilst I love the Delano sound, a little bit of extra presence / bite without harshness will be just the ticket (black fretboard will also nicely bring out the rosewood burl position inlays). Just need to forget about it now for several months...:hmm:

Clearly nowhere near my biological clock but that's probably just as well, don't want to break into triple digits just yet.

Cool new pics, Mike !!

Love the story on the name for that Sei Jazz, Bill e Bob.

Whlst others are having a jolly time over Easter, I'll be slaving away over a hot laptop as I try and complete lots of Open Uni work before we go away to the USA on 3rd April. Going to try to get in some Sei time as well, though!!

Well that's me off of TB for the next few weeks.

We leave for the USA next week for a month, during which time Jen and I are getting married in Las Vegas. Before then, I'm off down south to see my friends and relations before we cross the pond.

As well as getting married we're going to take movie tours in LA and take in anywhere that sells perfume and handbags (for Jen) and taking in music shops and finding any bargains (for me).

We're taking in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Chicago, St Louis, Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, Charlottesville, Wytheville, Washington DC and New York. It's going to be a heck of a trip !!

I hope that when I return they'll be a few more Sei basses completed and a few more excited owners.

Well I'm on my way down south, turned on the laptop and found there's free Wi-Fi on the train. How cool is that!!

I have a list of basses that I want to try whilst I'm out there, but having a Sei means that it takes something special to be impressed !!

Hi all. Not sure if I should be asking this question on this board...but am sure I will get an informed answer! I'm thinking about selling my Sei - flamboyant 4 string, Barts, Shack pre-amp, LEDs, serial no 065. Its a beauty and I have so enjoyed owning it for the past 7 years. It was bought s/h from The Gallery. I'm increasingly finding myself drawn to a simpler approach to playing and my set up - I actually enjoy playing my Mustang and my Hohner more than the Sei. Its also a bass that I find needs constant tweaking of the set-up to get the best from it and thats not for me at this time. So...would be interested in thoughts on value or indeed what I am doing. Is it really a sensible option?!

Dude if that is how you feel then don't worry about it - I think play whatever makes you happy. I'm pleased to hear the bass has had 7 years good service and you obviously feel like a change. One thing I will add is that for me owning a Sei is far less about having an expensive bass than about actually owning a bass that lets me play the way i want to play. Which seeing as mine was made for me - to my desired specs - does everything and more. It will be my main bass for a long, long time - but I don't feel materialistic about this - yes it was expensive - but it's one bass for everything I do. i almost feel the same way as you in that I like a great bass with a great amp - just simple - and no or few effects. It's all in the fingers and if your fingers feel better on something else so be it - you can still be our friend ;)
