Got the bass and it's everything I hoped for and then some...

Sounds and plays brilliantly.

Full report sometime over the weekend when I can try it through my own rig and take loads of photos.

I may be some time!

Brilliant...another fabulous SEI bass out there to educate the bass playing masses how good Martin's instruments are! :hyper:

Looking forward to the review and those pic's...I was going to type have a good weekend but that is most definitely ensured now!

I'll soon be a proud sei bass owner.
I'm going for a Series 2. 5 string. headed. It will be: Full facing in spalted burl(top And back). flame maple neck; leds side/front. Snake wood fretboard. Wooden pick up covers. And ash body and of course headed...
All of this will basically be my dream bass!:hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper:

Hopefully I should have it by july 2009.

What do you guys think?? good decision to go with all that?? :-)

How can i join the sei bass club?

pierreganseman, very welcome to the SEI club. Paddy is the big cheese who gives out membership numbers and I suspect you will get a 'w' as well whilst you 'w'ait for your SEI bass.

I like the sound of your bass. Martin gets some beautiful flamed maple, which will go nicely with the ash body and both of which will contast nicely with the darker burl facings. Do you know what type of burl it is and also what the neck stringers are? You going for headstock facings as well?

Regarding elecrtrics, what is the type of sound you are after? The maple neck and ash wings will give a bright, clear, growly upfront edge to the sound, which can either be enhanced or modified through the choice of pickups, electrics and woods used for neck stringers. What has Martin recommended as his view is the one to really listen to?

As for delivering on time, allow 12-14 months for your bass to be completed. There will be be little apparent progress for approx the first 6 months, followed by 3-4 months of bass building activity, about 1 month at the finishers and a further 2-3 months to finish the bass. Several things might slow it down a bit:
  • Component parts that are hard / slow to source (e.g. exotic woods, custom Bartolini pickups etc)
  • Particularly unusual / custom basses (e.g. the ERB's I've ordered)
  • Other third party delays (e.g. the finishers, hardware suppliers etc)
  • Holidays (Christmas, summer etc).

I'm afraid you just have to wait patiently...:help: It will be worth the wait, which very quickly becomes a distant memory when you get your bass.

AND we are here of course to help you through it...;)

The stringers are bubinga. Well had a few words with martin. I know i want fatstack nordstrand in it. When it comes to the eq it will be usual five knobs 3band eq. I don't really know those techical terms. I just know i want a modern sound. Of course, purchasing a seid bass would be dumb if i'd want a jazz bass sound(fender can go kiss my ass:-))
The facings will be spalted maple burl. AAAAAAAAAAAH.... i can't wait:hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper:

What are those finishers u guys are talking about? :-)

BigRedX - Can't wait to see the pics. Sounds like your having a great time with your new Sei.

Pierreganseman - Specs look excellent. From what I heard, snakewood isn't usually available in pieces big enough for a fingerboard. As Sei24bass said the waiting is difficult but is soon forgotten after you have the bass in your hands!!

Kevin Lindsay - Heck, it's the "oil-slick" bass. What a shame for you to sell it.

Kevin, if I'm not mistaken that's the oil slick bass. What's the story behind selling it so quickly?

Snakewood is not usually that difficult to source, though difficult for extremely wide fretboards unless you go bookmatched fretboard (snakewood logs oftem have splits etc in the middle). The spalted maple I saw in Martin's 'factory' were pretty wild and the maple/bubinga neck will be lovely. Re electrics I love transparent pre-amps that remain clear and clean when the tone controls are tweaked. Examples of these I would consider include:
  • Glockenklang - Very clear, clean, quiete, transparent, uncoloured yet wonderfully musical sounding pre-amp
  • Audere - Clear, clean, quiete, transparent & slightly compressed sound (clever Z switch radically alters the tone)
  • Nordstrand - Very new pre-amp reportedly mid way between Aguilar and Audere
  • Demeter - Clear, transparent, almost clinically clean pre-amp

The other pre-amp that springs to mind would be Aguilar OBP-3, which is a bit of a wild card. Big, clear and clean sounding, though not exactly transparent and the bass control adds lots of big thick powerful bass (not the clear clean deep bass that I look for but liked by many).
