Hey Howie - hope your well. We need a catch-up some point.

I've had a listen to Howies Ric and was really surprised at the Ric - for some reason I thought they would be really clanky sounding but no, not my cup of tea but really quite warm. A real surprise to me, better than any Fen**r.

Yes! The vast majority of pickups on the market are passive (including Villex), all of which can be used with on-board preamp (the Sei 8 has Villex pickups and a Glockenklang on-board circuit). They do have an unusually high passive output, which does make them especially useful if you want a purely passive bass. No need to though and they will sound great with the ACG filter pre-amp.

A couple of months ago, I sent in a submission for the "My guitar is..." feature in Guitarist magazine (who cares if I have a bass !!).

Last week, I received an e-mail saying that they wanted to run my submission in the next issue , but wanted some more photos as the ones they have simply weren't good enough.

I phoned Martin, explained the situation and asked if the guys there could take some more photos and send them to me. Next day, I received these pics from Alex but was then told that they were too late for the issue and that they were just running with what they had already which included 1 full length pic and a couple of cool close-ups..

So here's the pics which Alex was kind enough to take..

as well as the full length pic and close-ups I sent in...

So I wait anxiously for the next issue, number 297.

I have some other Sei news, but I have to wait a couple of days before I can post pics....

Hey doods

Well no news yet on my bass' return from the polishers - enquiries are being made when it'll be back. But I did try this lovely wee beasty out as its owner wants to use 5 strings only from now - and even tho I don't really do 6's - this is a beauty:

It's a really wonderful bass - but the reason I was particularly happy to give it a spin was that it now has Nordstrand fat Stacks and a Demetor circuit - and a ramp - which is basically what I've ordered. Now I know I did this blind but anything Mr Lindsey digs, I think is good enough for me, but holy heck boys! What a tone...! Serious, monster growl, punch, warmth, yummy-ness...

I was really blown away - I am more confident than ever that I have chosen a really good spec and the lightness and looks of the SC will more than make up for these last few nail-biting weeks

It's all good - the misses is really well BTW - looking lovely and steadily more pregnant.

OK - I hope that's enough news for now - anyone wanting a killer 6 string... there's one at the Gallery right now that needs a home.

Geez, that's a great lookin' Sei !!

So glad it gives you extra confidence in your own build. The waiting does get frustrating, but just think of it as good practice for your main event

I'm waiting for Jezebel to be returned to me, but I've recently had my Conklin 7 string de-fretted & ramped so that's keeping me busy. I used to have a 35" Yamaha TRB6II which was converted to fretless as soon as I got it, but I find 34" so much more comfortable. So pleased I made the choice to sell that Yamaha and then get the Conklin (which the measurements were taken from for my Sei) de-fretted and ramped...

I'm lucky to have 2 x 7 string basses and to have them so closely matched that switching will be pretty painless. That's until I have the funds for another Sei !! (but before that it needs to be the PC1 fund and, oh yeah, I need to get my health back and get a job !!).

By the way, Ben, how's the Sei 8 going ????????????

That 6er looks fantastic and makes me want another Sei. I keep musing over specs for a new one but as I don't have the means to buy it will all have to remain a pipedream. Oh well at least that photo has given me a lift.#

By the way I would be grateful for any good thoughts you could send my way, I have been struggling to get back to work after 4 1/2 yrs off. Now just as I start to get back to work I get signed off with stress so I am feeling more than a little low at the moment. Bummer!!!

Anyway back to gazing at that Sei 6er.

2 bits of news for you !!

The first is that I received an e-mail from Sei HQ saying that the coil-tap button is fully secured and Jezebel is now ready to be sent home. She leaves on Monday to get to me on Tuesday.

The other bit of news is that I have a tattoo of the Sei logo !!

Jen and I both got tattoo's when we were in Salisbury a couple of weeks ago. We'd been thinking of getting more for quite a while and literally stumbled upon a cool shop. Their work was of a high quality and the prices were good too.

The Sei tattoo measures approx 12cm x 11cm is a duplicate of the Sei logo in black with the accent and dots in purple. The '7 string' typeface was taken from one in MS Word and I insisted on adding the horizontal line to make the number just like the 7 that Barry Sheene used to have

The tattoo took 2 sittings to complete, taking 3 1/2 hours in total.

Alex at Sei HQ took a pic when I took in Jezebel to have the coil-tap button sorted. Problem was it was still healing and I still had to cover it up with cling-film. Due to the healing process, I haven't been able to post it until now.

Needless to say, I'm immensely proud of my new tattoo

I couldn't resist popping into the Gallery yesterday for another go on this baby - it's 33" scale too which makes it mega playable - and again I'm pleased I've chosen to have my SC this scale as well - I don't normally 'do' 6s but this is gorgeous and as previously mentioned the tone is monstrous - this bass is for sale and I can tell you now if I wasn't already expecting one of these beauties myself this would be very tempting - I was slapping and 4-finger picking all over the shop on this and it just kept on giving - I have no doubt my bass will deliver on all counts too!

That bass does look superb (although it does have my pet hate, exposed pole pieces !!).

I can't wait for the return of my Sei on Tuesday....Paddy's got another week to go (ooo the pain !!).

Talking of pain, to answer Matthew my tattoo didn't really hurt at all, more like an irritating scratch. Then again, I take a fair amount of painkillers everyday anyway, so I think I had an unfair advantage...

This pic is great. It's amazing what the dogs think they can do when you're not in the room. Ours sneak onto the bed or on the sofa as well !!

Mark, very very well (thanks for asking). It really does fit my sonic requirements perfectly and I really have never played a fretless in 15 years that plays so well and effortlessly (whilst I am overly busy at the moment, very seldom a day goes past without me having a very short play on it). It went back to Martin for a few tweaks about a month ago and boy did I miss it every day I didn't have it rollno.

So I can understand what you are going through...tomorrow will be a great day!

Matthew, how you feeling and have you managed to get back to work again? Can be a very slow and frustrating process...
