nothing majorly serious. but Im going to be passing this baby to a loving home if anyone is interested. I know its a bad time of year for selling boutique basses though.

Mistahbenn - I sincerely hope the "nothing majorly serious" turns out OK and that your bass finds a good home.
gwx014 - There are some fine Sei brains on here !! Can you say what type of sound are you going after and maybe we can make some suggestions...
My Sei (geez I never tire of saying that) is walnut core with bolivar dyed claret as a veneer with full lacewood facings back and front. The thru-neck is flame maple & wenge. It has a really punchy sound especially in the lows and lower mids...

I want a warm, kind of growly, round sound, but clear for doing chordal stuff. Probably closer to the modern end of the spectrum.

I remembered that S.O.C. member "RustyChainsaw" has a really growly Sei. I looked throught part 1 of this thread and found his description of it

I specified custom-wound Kent Armstong MM and P pickups, and all that wenge, with the bubinga neck stringers and ebony fingerboard, contribute quite heavily to the tone too.
If you want to hear what it sounds like, (mods, sorry if this comes across as a plug, but you don't have to buy it), go to the iTunes Music Store, look up "5th Man Down" and listen to the excerpt of the track "Broken Circle" for maximum growliness."
So maybe something along those lines with some maple mixed into it to give the highs that you want....

There's no extra charge for variations in scale - 33" means a fraction less wood so in some ways you should ask for money off (er, don't do that
) - best thing to do is get an idea of the sound you want in your head and then go an have a chat with Martin about it. I've got a very clear idea about the sound - and feel - of the bass that I wanted, hence I went for an ash body with a maple neck, and the all important ebony fingerboard - plus I really wanted buckeye facings - and an SC. BUT there are so many other wonderful options available it's well worth really thinking this through before you go and commission the bass. I've wanted a Sei for many years but in that time I've played loads of basses with different wood combinations to have a good idea what would create the sound I want - Martin is an absolute expert in this as well - so his opinion is vital.By the way my bass should be back from the polishers anytime this week - so HOPEFULLY I'll be able to see her again soon - oh, how I miss you my sweet... and just in case you forgot what a cracker she is here's a pic:

Here's the 6 stringer Mike mentioned earlier - now with Nordstrand FatStacks in place, and a Demeter 3 band EQ as well (just like my Singlecut 5 - the one reviewed in bass Guitar Magazine)
I've been looking at that one! I would've already tried it out, but I'm on the other side of the pond.
Mike- I can't wait to see your finished Sei, I've been following its progress for a while now!
We have decided to go for a set of custom wound Bare Knuckle Jazz pickups on my Fretless Singlecut. Will have an active EQ in there also.
We're still wondering what to do regarding the brodge. So sad to hear the news about ABM bridges (the owner of the comany passed away recently, so no more ABM stuff guys), Anyone know of any suitable manufacturers? The great thing about ABM was that they would machine a bridge for you for whatever spacing you required - knda hard to find that level of customer accommodation in any other hardware manufacturer.
I'm down in London in January (looking after the Gallery while the guys head off to the NAMM show in Los Angeles, and am looking forward to seeing my bass in the flesh. Last time I saw it, was when it was simply sanded bare wood!

I'd heard something about supply problems with ABM, but of course this goes far beyond the mere matter of business.
Martin had a good relationship with them and, being German, he was able to speak to them without the problem of having to translate his questions. I asked whether ABM did a satin silver finish to their hardware and, right away, Martin was able to ring them and ask the question (the answer, by the way, was 'no').
Kevin - That bass looks absolutely fantastic !! I saw it earlier in the year and it looked very cool. It'll be a battle to stop playing it and look after customers when you're down there !!

Just to let you all know, I have started a group on facebook for Sei basses. Called unimaginatively "Sei Basses". I am not expecting many responses from the world at large because of the small number of Sei's actually in existance but those of you who use facebook are most welcome to drop in.
I will be trying to get photo's etc up over the coming days and weeks.
I should add that it is not meant in any way to take over from this thread.

For those Sei fanatics out there I am selling a few of my Sei stash to make room for my Milennium Seven coming early next year. The listing starts at 10PM West Coast (US) time this evening. Hi-res phots can be seen at [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Well after a lot of strife in the last few months, I've begun recording with my Sei 7. Just some drafts/ideas for now, but it sounds pretty good.
Nice to get into the swing of things again. I think I might look into taking my gear to a local studio, just to turn things up for an hour or so and to make sure the rig still works !! Last time I played through the big stuff was when we were having some decorating done and I couldn't even put the volume on 1..
Also, it'll make me decide once-and-for-all whether Jezebel needs any EQ adding to her. There's a big difference between put the bass through a practice amp and recording/putting her through decent gear at decent volumes !!
Jezebel will have to go back to Sei HQ anyway as the coil-tap button's done it's escaping-into-the-cavity trick again. I just need to decide whether that's the only work she'll need.
Playing-wise, my Sei is just so easy to play. I forget that it's supposed to be an oil tanker-like 7 string and just think of the instrument as a whole or really as an outlet of my music-making.
I've been reading a fair amount recently about ERB's and that you should only use them for when the extended range is needed. I personally disagree with that as I play my Sei and jam with all different kinds of music from new-country to Iron Maiden and Dream Theater.
I've even been interested by the MIDI side of things although that would run into hundreds of pounds. No harm looking though !!
