Selling your only bass.

This is a thread to discuss and see whos had to get rid of their only bass (or any bass you miss) due to finacial reasonings.

My girlfriend recently found out she was pregnant, and to better our future, for college and stability, we had to move to Albuquerque. I had to sell my Fender Jazz V and Peavey Vb-2 to aquire the necessary fundage.

We've been here a couple weeks now and I have to say that not being able to play in a touring band and play and practice often is really getting to me. I can't recall a time in the past two or three years where I havent played bass everyday. And I haven't played in two or three weeks now.

I'm looking into buying a cheap sx or something to get me by until we have paid everything off and have stability for the baby and stuff. But even that might be a month or so.

I'm really bummed out.

I don't know if this is allowed or not, but if anyone has an extra bass or even a guitar they can lend me until I buy one, id be completely trustworthy and give you my number and address. I'd send it back right when I buy my new one. I'm really hurting here! If I had too, I could probably send you a little bit of money every month to 'rent' it.

But aside from that, share your stories of losing your basses!

I'll live under the Burnside Bridge before I sell any of my basses, but I'd never be without one. Its my religion and my therapist.

That said, I played with Bugsy Maugh, Paul Buttersfields bassist, for years and used to go and get his ax out of the pawn shop so we could gig. I'm a bottom feeder, hey? I'd miss it, but dude, if you'll pay shipping, you can have my 92 Peavey Foundation on loan. Not great, but it works. PM me, no one that want to play this bad should be without an ax. Its white, and ugly, but it plays music.:bassist:

Stan Getz, used to have to borrow a sax to record with, because the time between gigs was so long. Well, other reasons too, but I'd of loved it if he had borrowed mien...Not that I have a sax to borrow, but I do have a bass.

Cant believe no one's said it yet, so...... CONGRATULATIONS on the upcoming child! I wish I had a spare bass right now for ya man, I know how you feel; I just broke my right hand and wont be playing bass for about a month.... :crying:

Good luck in both music and parentage (maybe not in that particular order, lol).

Ha, thank you very much! We find out what it is on Friday.

dude...congrats on the new arrival. And kudos to you making a very hard decision to sell your gear. Now is the perfect time to try playing on a dime....SX's seem to have a good rep here...i went the squier route and picked mine up used at GC. A Squire VM (I love it). I have two little ones too so I can only buy inexpensive stuff....

Best of Luck!

Here is a hint...its a baby! sorry to inform you it will not be a porsche or a kimodo dragon:hiding:

that being said..congrats!

when my wife lost her job and could not find another where we lived i had to sell my only bass, my stack, my Akai MPC2000XL, my turntables, my computer and a bunch of my rare vinyl just to make enough doe to GTF outta dodge. moved , made money ...now were doing well with a much better lifestyle and with all the extra doe..every time i get GAS she encourages me to splurge!

Every dark tunnel has a light eventually. you will get right again im sure..way to make good decisions to better your lives

You made the right choice Congrat's on the Child and making some great mature decision. I had to sell my last bass a few times. Because my youngest made some special needs. God has rewarded me ten fold. I sold a '98 Thumb bass. In the five years since I've had a Warrior, Lakland and and a vintage Smith fall in my lap. I sold the Warrior to take the family on vacation a few years ago. My wife reading over my shoulder just said that your Girlfriend will never forget this.
Good Job man.

I have to question whose who would rather see there child's mother homeless rather than be bass-less, are you capable to be deep enough in a relationship to ever have to make this kind of choice?

I had a motorcycle accident in the 80's,on the first day of my holidays,at a job I'd only just started. So there was little holiday pay.I had to sell a 4000 Rickenbacker from the early 70's for the same price I'd bought it for($400AU).I sold a 70's Fender P bass to get that $400 & a Fender Jazz(67 neck on 76 body iirc) to get the P.All thru the 80's all I really wanted was a Steinberger XL2.
It does my head in nowdays to see some of the price tags on some of the basses I bought & sold for about a couple weeks pay, back then.
**edit.
Congrats on the baby news.
Babies are the meaning of life!!

having a baby is differnet i think i never had one lol

anyways i hope you get at least something , look on your local craigslist for something cheap. I lived on peoples couches and i guess was a bum kinda for a year , but i always had a bass/amp and band , i cant go without it.
