The reason why I consider those 'cons' is because you have to be somewhat careful with it. My Laklands and Fenders have fallen off stands, been knocked over, been on airplanes (as baggage and carry-on), and so on. I would not subject my Casady to such abuse.

I love my Jack Casady bass, but it sounds more like a p-bass than a traditional hollow-body. Sounds to me like the OP is looking for a more traditional short-scale with an old-school sound. At least that's the impression I get.

Did I mention I love my JC bass? Best sounding bass I've ever played!

Yes, many have mentioned how close the JC feels to a P. I have a P. If I want a P, I will use my P.

I basically want a semi hollow, 30” scale, that has a vintage look.

Are you looking for a true hollow-body (like my Conrad above) or a semi-hollow body with a solid mid-section? A true hollow-body typically gives a bigger more open sound with resonance and thump in contrast to a semi-hollow which in most cases sounds like a typical solid body with lighter weight?

A "true" semi-hollowbody uses essentially the same construction method as a full hollowbody (steam bent sides, etc.) but is (obviously) not as deep and has a center block.

I’m looking for a semi hollow. I started off wanting a White Falcon, but can’t justify the cost, and it’s 34” scale.

I’m heavily considering the Guild StarfireII, but open to ideas

I owned one of the Newark Street reissues for awhile. It's a very nice instrument. A few points about it:
- it has a very narrow and thin neck, almost like a guitar, nothing like a P Bass
- with the center block it is heavier than it appears
- it very definitely has the Guild Bisonic single coil tone, which is not exactly the same as the original Hagstrom (or the Novak for that matter). You can hear some examples of the BiSonic tone on the Serek Bass website:

BTW Serek also has come chambesed short scales that might interest you. A little above your budget.

I appreciate it. I’m not looking for a P Bassy semi hollow, so a thinner neck is okay. I will check out what you posted.
