Semi hollow questions

I really want one. I’m not looking for a do it all bass, but something semi hollow that really embraces the feel, sound and quirkiness a semi hollow provides.

Budget: I’m thinking 1,200-1,800

I think I want 30” scale, as I’ve head the neck length with the large body can be uncomfortable.

I’m thinking The Guild Starfire II in the natural flame maple.

Should I consider anything else?

The epiphone jack Cassidy is a favorite of many.

if size is a concern , maybe try a viola bass.

Good inclination. One with the BiSonics... here's mine. A Newark Street.
I like pairing this one with a Nordstrand Cat as the Guild sounds HUGE and the Cat has a Ric'like thing that has more cut.

Those Starfires are surprisingly bright and detailed sounding.

The Jack Cassidy is a good gateway bass if you're coming off of P Basses. They behave the same!

If you don’t like the diminutive body of a violin bass you could try one of the versions of the Hofner club bass.

I’m not really looking for same. I have a P Bass and love it. I’m looking for a different experience.

I actually got the itch for a semi Hollow body 5 string. I have a local builder in Ohio building one right now, so far it is looking great.

Only short-scale bass I'd spend my hard-earned money on.

Remember, a lot of hollow bodied basses are short scale - the Cassidy isn't.

Another vote for the Jack Casady. I have one, strung with flats. Use it occasionally.

Pros: 34" scale, Fender-esque feeling neck, simple 1-pickup design, great tone, budget friendly.

Cons: tilt back headstock, set-neck design, overly bulky hardshell case.

Pros far outweigh the cons. You just have to be a little careful with it... you cannot toss it around like a Fender.
