Send and return or not

Hi,
I only use one effect for one song on our set list, an Electro Harmonics Big Muff. Just wondering if any there are any advantages or disadvantages between plugging it in using the send and return on the amp or plugging the bass to the effect and then to the amp. Its easier to do the latter, any thought's. Thanks.

Distortion should never go in the FX loop.

There are no technical benefit that I can see (it's a similar question to "preamp before or after dirt"), it's all a matter of tone, so you should really try both ways and do whatever you prefer.

Probably not a good idea. The FX send / return is intended for line-level peripherals.
