Sending new bass back.

So far as the crack, I've owned about 9 basses so far and only one an Ibenez developed a crack but it was after hard use.

Not to keep knocking on you for it but I would wager that the basses that didn't have the cracks didn't have neck pockets as tight as this one and the Ibby that did. The wood is soft and flexes, the finish os hard and cracks. 99 times out of 100 its purely cosmetic.

Well I tell you what, if I get this same model sent and it cracks again I'll just keep it. I know if they all sat in a warehouse to age for a while the ones that crack would be offered at a reduced price. I don't mind a crack if I get a reduced price.

Boy this thread has me thinking I will get the Epiphone bass instead. Unfortunatly they don't have the Indonesian Made bass in white with neck though but they can order it. It would be about 250.00 and is not returnable as a special order bass.

But the catch is what did you pay in taxes?

No sales tax. If the retailer is located out-of-state and is not engaged in business in the state (and the seller does not have a "physical presence" in the state), the state cannot require the retailer to collect North Carolina's tax. Not sure where you live; YMMV.

Agree. It's a very common issue across all their price points. Here's a screen capture of Buddy Guy live at Red Rocks. You can see the crack on his Custom Shop Strat.

I've got to politely disagree with those that are saying that these kind of cracks are just cosmetic. When people say it's "just in the finish, not the wood", I've got wonder how they know that. In my mind, the only way to fully confirm that is to strip the finish in that area and look at the wood.

I've stripped and refinished many bass bodies in my time, and in my experience, every single body I've ever stripped that displayed those type of cracks had a corresponding hairline crack in the wood underneath. Not some, or even most, but every dang one.

Just my 2 cents, and probably worth every penny.

BOTH were/are brand new basses, Strings too by default.

You said the Thunderbird basses you tried were used and pretty bassy.

A Thunderbird can be very trebly if you want it to be. That's what I was getting at.

I don't know, I don't think it's holding it's tune either.

As for local dealer he wanted 500.00 for the same bass. He wanted 800.00 for the MIM bass with maple neck I paid 600 for. He wants OVER MSRP on his stuff. I can't do business on that level.

How is his clarification then: Even if the wood has a small crack there it is still cosmetic. That wee little bit o'wood is just there to blend the curve, it does nothing for the structure of the bass. That's my take.

Ya and seen some reviews to confirm that. I really like the neck through white Epiphone thunderbird.

Some companies chose to collect tax anyway. If I order from Amazon, I get hit with tax. So far, MF has been good to me.

I've got an ankle that cost 20k. One that was 4K and two more under 2k. I've got two vacuum systems that are 3,600 a piece and those connect on to my 5k carbon fiber socket, that's held on by a 100$ sleeve that gets holes monthly needing to be replaced... Lost my leg in 2010 Thank god for workers comp!

Sorry bout your leg, I lost my lower left leg last May and barely started on my prosthesis 2 weeks ago...

Well I am not sure it was sent that way. It might have occurred after delivery. Can't say for sure as it was so hard to see. It was otherwise flawless. I notice the one at the local music store does not have a crack but I also noticed the tension on the strings is not at standard tuning. More like tuned to D.

Well here is what I decided to go with. I decided I have been spending too much money so thought it un wise to go with the more expensive neck though white one. Down the road, if I really like the way these basses play I may pick one up. But for now this bass will be the one I leave at work. Unless it really plays well on a Behemoth cover I use my spector for, if so I will take the spector and leave it at work.
