Is it a crack or a check? two different animals ---- cracks are no-nos but a check? this has more to do with the quality of the finish (to happen so fast) and will be the first of many over the years.......

.....when you buy local you (usually) get the service included. Theres a Mom&Pop store in my local area thats a bit overpriced but I buy from regularly - I just bought a new GK amp from them and paid a few hundred bucks more than the catalog -- but I have the satisfaction of knowing that if it goes wrong, I can take it to them and they will bend over backwards to make me happy, including giving me a loaner if I needed one ....so its most definitely an insurance/service trade-off

I bought a five string from the local dealer. He only charged me 80 dollars over what I could get it for on line? When I went in to ask about a White P bass MIM he quoted me 699.99 100 dollars above what I got it for at ZZ sounds. That was also just over 30 dollars over Fender's MSRP so far as I can recall. Then I realized I forgot about that I wanted maple neck so I added of I want the maple neck assuming it was no extra charge and it's not anywhere else mind you. He looked in the book a second then looked up and quoted me 799.99

I got the feeling I was being blatantly ripped off but I held judgment. Posted the details on a Facebook bass page and the consensus was the dealer was trying to rip me off.
Sorry but I don't do business with anyone who's trying to rip me off. Profits fine, I was willing to pay a little more. Ripping me off like I am a shmuck? Well you are cutting your own throat at that point.

Did you ask why he charges more than every major and most minor retailers?

Careful, there, or some here will accuse you of acting "entitled" just because you prefer not to be ripped off by an unscrupulous dealer! :roflmao: (Yeah, happened to me already a few times.)

nah...i dont care if its in person or not..i dont mind a small superficial crack because the cost is that much lower and also it helps me get over the hump of babying an instrument and just playing it

I think I have reached a conclusion on the bass I sent back. Check my rational if you will.

The VM P bass even with all three pickups engaged with full treble still does not sound as good as my Standard MIM P bass so I am thinking why have another one sent?

I was thinking about paying an additional 50 dollars and getting a Thunderbird. I suppose it would not be the best bass to play along to Iron Maiden CD's but then currently my practice sessions on lunch at work are trending with Maiden but I suppose my tastes will change. Only thing I have noticed about the thunderbirds is they are pretty bassy in tone but I've only played used ones.

I did. A MIM P bass that I speak about sounding better the the VM p bass with added pick ups.


I need a bass to leave at work, first it was an Affinity, bad neck, sent it back then this nice Squire but had a crack I did not like. Figured I would exchange it but second guessing that. Money is already spent so its just a 50 dollar up grade.

Excellent Epiphone Thunderbird Classic on ebay right now for a great price, less than the regular Thunderbirds...the one with the Gibson pickups.
Best bargain for the bucks out there.

Interesting.

You devoted a whole thread about how American Fenders were priced out of the reach of the "average jo". Between the MIM you bought in November and this purchase, you're getting very close to American Fender pricing (with MF's 15% off).

What is interesting is the non comparison. I take it because I can afford three different basses for three differing music styles that this somehow makes a single American made Fender affordable to me? That's not how it works.

That's like saying people can afford healthcare but at the price of being homeless.
