Sennheiser e609 on sale at SW

Is $99 a good deal for an e609 silver? I've been using sm57 clones (Digital Reference DRI100's) for mic'ing guitar amps in my studio. I think I paid $50 for 3 pack years ago and they still work pretty well. I've built a "semi dead" box and was thinking the e609 might be a good investment for recording. The bundle with 25' cable, case, mic clip for $119 seems like the way to go at that price point.

They go for $130 canadian at the local big box store here, so $100 US seems pretty much in line - not so much a deal as the going rate.

Might want to wait for a better deal to come up. I'm thinking rather than add gear, it's probably better to work on recording skills. The last recordings are not bad but can use improvement, a new mic is not going to resolve that. Thanks for the feedback.

Would the e609 form factor work better in your semi dead box?

As in, does the box need to be the better part of a foot deeper to accommodate the SM57 (assuming you’re pointing it directly at the cone)?

I've currently got a temp setup, made out of a frame and moving blankets so there is room. It works surprisingly well in the room (with all of us wearing headphones). Until I build the permanent box the sm57 clone is fine. The multiple moving blanket was kind of a fluke prototype, it's got an AC15 in it now and large enough to circulate a little air. The permanent design will be a little tighter and vented with a small fan. I'm shooting for enough space for the VOX or a 1x12 cab - when I get there the e609 form will be helpful.
I'm on the gain control learning curve now, recordings are not bad just with low volume... keeps me off the streets.
