Sennheiser e835: yes or no?

I know bill, I work with him at MF. As far as my experience, the E835 is a lot clearer, where as the 58 seams as though there is a sock over your head. Plus the e835s can be used as a vocal or an instrument mic. The SM58 mic was a great microphone .... 50 years ago. Electro Voice also makes some great mics as well. My favorites are the sennheisers though.

The 58 has been the most iconic microphone from being seen on stage, pictures of performers. What sells the 58 is its repetition not it's quality.

Kinda makes the SM-58 the P Bass of the mic world.

I use the e835 in a duo where I play an EUB. It captures my off axis singing pretty well. In my rock band it seems to get lost so I use a beta 58 with no problems.
FWIW, I bought the e835 at GC on sale for $60 a couple months ago.

It looks like there are lots of opinions.
In my experience, the 835 has lower output than the SM58 but is better suited for female vocals than the 58.
Both work, but I'd put a 935 or SM58 on male vocals before an 835.

I used one for 15 years. To me, it seemed warmer sounding than the SM58. I really like mine. Plus its Black.
It is warmer. Way too warm and there is the problem for me with either the 58 or 835.. I have to spend to much EQ to make them passable...

Oops I Have the 945 series and it is quite nice.

Yep, nice mic indeed, the 835 isn't even close to the 945.
