Sequencers?

Does anyone use sequencers to do compositions, and have any they recommend?

I use FL Studio (AKA FruityLoops), but I really just use it for metronomes, exercises, and slowing down simple riffs, but even with the Piano Roll, I find it hard to sequence in drum parts, melodies, or basslines that are slightly off beat and capture the same feel of when I actually play the same part.

It's easy enough for me to record my basslines, and guitar melodies directly, but this won't help with drum parts.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Matt

Good ideas guys... I have a PC Laptop that I mainly use for music, but I use it for other things as well.

I had an old version of Cubase and a MIDI keyboard, but I got rid of it the keyboard several years ago... Wait, I just remembered I have a MIDI drumkit collecting dust... Okay, now I'm going to search high and low until I find that Cubase USB key.
