serious opportunity- what to know legally

I have a longboard and a Dogtown short-board, which one do you think would get me there faster?
:smug:

I have to say, having spent a fair (or unfair) amount of time in Los Angeles, that there is always some great potential deal going on with bands that are on the verge of making it. I have also noticed that female bands looking for players advertise all over the place for the right player. I did a quick search, and I do not see anything for a female band looking for a bass player that is going to be involved in a tv deal. Nothing.

I think if you are really interested, a long board will get you there faster. But, I also have to say there are plenty of good to great female musicians in the Los Angeles area who are taking action on this opportunity right now, if it is really an true opportunity at all.

Seeing is believing.

Well, 20% Dude-Man claims to be connected directly to the producer. If this gives me some sort of leverage, great. If not, like I said, I kinda don't care anymore...because if this whole thing turns out to be total crap and a lie/scam, it will still doubtlessly serve as a valuable educational experience for me.

So, we'll see. Even having to really focus on recording a good demo, has been an incentive for me to now plug right in to Garageband every day and record everything I play, to then listen back and deconstruct for the sake of my own improvement. As for wrapping my head around the business end of the music industry, these are all things I will need to know anyway, so what better time than now?

And as for a fire lit under my #$$ so that I feel motivated to work towards a higher purpose and a new life out in LA no matter who I end up playing with, well, can't go wrong there either...because now I'm working towards establishing everything I need to do in order to start over and have my @#% together.

This strange thing happens with me, where as soon as I'm really under the gun and things are really intense, it just all starts to fall into place...the pressure just makes me that much more hellbent on success. The possibility alone gives me energy and focus that I was starting to lose. The more skepticism and cynicism I hear, the more determined I am to figure things out for myself, be resourceful, and be really @#$@# good. Now that the confusion and stress over this has faded, all I feel is just this inner sense of determination. If this turns out to be a totally bogus opportunity, so what, now I have that much more under my belt to take on opportunities that are more legit.

Awesome, just awesome, totally the right attitude!!!

Nothing like a pending opportunity to get the fire in the belly going. For me, it has been a pending cruise ship gig and doing another audition. I have let this go for the last few days, and have lost that fire, feeling depressed, need to get it back. A new opportunity has already come my way anyway.

And, I agree, every experience is another notch closer to success.

But, please, really give thought to LA. It is not the only music market. There are better places to live. You will need your own transportation and there is a lot of phony crap that goes on there where everyone is planning to make it. It was too much for me, and I opted out to a more liveble place. Try googling some of the female bands there and make contact with them. I have been in some all female bands in the past, although I like mixed gender bands much better.

Yeah.

You will absolutely HAVE to have your own vehicle.
No two ways about it.

Just like down here in Fla.
You would be S.O.L. without your own car.

Public Transportation ???
Sure it exists...
But nothing anywhere near what you are used too.

I sent my demo to the guy and am waiting to hear back, although by no means holding my breath. As for LA, eh, I'll do my homework, get the car situation sorted, and eventually just come up with a game plan and give it a shot. Having my Apple certifications in my back pocket can't hurt, as far as finding work out there. If this particular gig doesn't come through, it might not be til the fall or next winter, but that's ok, it's a big transition.

I know, right?

I sure would like to give him a piece of my mind!

But then I'd be stooping to his level. So I'm just gonna keep networking and working hard, come up with a plan for LA, and trust that it'll eventually pay off. I'd be happy enough just making SOME form of income through music. It's not like I'll die if I don't become a big star.

Plus, you never know what I could connect to out there; some of the people I went to school with are in the film biz, maybe there's some overlap. There is an element of being more in the public eye that intrigues me....I feel like it would do me some good to get out there, be a little more outgoing, and have a change of pace. I think I'm good at networking and I'm open-minded...and now I've had this experience where I've gotten a sense of how this business works, so it's still valuable.

Honestly, the most disappointing thing to me is he didn't even listen to my $&@ demo! That, to me, is more of a statement about how much of a ray's $&& he gives.

Yeah, about that weather thing. Um, I can't deal with the winters here anymore. I just can't. I know it sounds petty, and I know being from Florida, you probably can't relate. But I just can't do winter and I think I need more sun to be happy and feel like a functional human being. While I've always prided myself on my ability to adapt and survive anywhere, the bottom line is I've been here for seven years and even if I found great opportunities here (which I might), even though I have a great job (which is great), this city is just rapidly running its course for me.

So I don't know. I respect your sentiment but when I came here, my mentality was to "go where the work is," and now I'm at a point in my life where I want to- for once- prioritize my mental and emotional well-being over career opportunities, just a little bit. Maybe this city used to be a great place for artists and creative types. Well, not anymore. Even Patti Smith is telling people not to come here anymore, read the Huffington Post if you don't believe me.

I think ultimately, where one decides to live is a personal choice. I've never once lived anywhere purely because I *want* to. It's always been because even though I "want" to, I've also felt like I had to.

I mean, it doesn't matter. There are affordable rents elsewhere. There are jobs for Apple techs elsewhere. There are bands and session work and wedding gigs and commercial jingles elsewhere. I don't think it'll kill me to move. I think it's entirely feasible that, save for some tweaks, I can duplicate my life here, in a place that um, doesn't make me want to slit my wrists in the winter and maybe has a more tolerable pace. New York City has turned me into somebody who I don't want to be anymore. I can't explain it any better than that. I fully realize that wherever I go, hey, there I am again! But within that, I am sensing a desire for change. And after seven years here- out of which MAYBE four have been say, 7 out of 10- I think it's time to finally go where I originally wanted to go when I left school... LA. Back then I just couldn't get my @#$ together. But now I can, and I will.

I understand the desire to move. One of the best days of my life was when I finally got my career in order -- and the economy cooperated -- to the point where I could choose where I wanted to live. And it just keeps getting better. On the other hand, a friend of mine got sick of Madison, and moved to Brazil.

This week on "20%," the new hit reality show starring EVERY FLAKE IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS, EVER:

"I'm traveling this week on a tour. the producer is in Switzerland right now. I'll speak with him at the end of next week when he gets back to LA. the gig is happening, but nothing is going to start until they sign and that's still being negotiated with (hot-shot celebrity who also has a record label) at the moment."
