Two is plenty for me - passive Fender P/J Special and an active Schecter….now if I only wouldn't have sold two prior ones a long time ago - '76 P-Bass and a '78 MM Stingray.........ah, well then I'd be up to four!

I have six.. I MEANT to only have three, but over the years of buying, selling, and trading I found six that I just cant seem to let go of. There is one i rarely play, but its sentimental. I sold it once, and 6 months later bought it back from the guy. But EVERY ONE brings a smile to my heart every time I plug it in.

I've often wonder that myself! I have only two bass guitars and at times difficult to choose between the two to be honest. I can see the differences in pickups, number of strings and types of strings depending on the applications. But for me personally if I had 5 basses to choose from (depending on what they can each offer me) I think I would simply go mad.....

I have a self-imposed limit of 6, but have bought and sold too many to list. Right now I have 5, all 34" 5 string fretted: an ABG, a headless Kiesel (mainly for travel), a passive P and 2 passive Js.....one with rounds and one with flats. I work in the city and spend time at a cottage in the woods.......leave 2 or 3 in each location, and play mainly one in each spot. I'm OK with it.

Different basses in different properties. That's kinda sexy!

Some people just have the money and or the obsession to collect And some are good musicians too like ZZ top and Bonamasa. Why question others unless they are doing something criminal to fund their habit.

I am up to 80 myself, I like the variety and different sounds I can get, I was up to over a hundred but a few years ago I started to downsize and still am.

80! And you were over 100! That's more than all the basses in all the local music stores combined in my city! That's just incredible.

Yep, same here. And every time I GAS about a 3rd I remind myself that I have no space for a 3rd bass, and that I have everything I need. Also every time I've added a third I've felt overwhelmed and quickly sold it.

I still GAS hard though ha, but that is in preparation of my 40th bday present coming up here in a year or so.

Yeah, it's hard for me around here. I've got my trusty Stingray, an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro + 210 cab, a Hamer guitar and Vox 15w head I play through the same 210, and very few pedals between the two. Adding any meager gear to this is a years-long process that feels like pulling teeth, as I'm a husband, father of 4, and now a dog owner.

I will admit, it is a struggle on this site sometimes seeing all the excess. Granted, I'm not playing out anymore these days, but I feel like my experience is miles apart from most here. Wish there was a "mostly satisfied" Club

Different instruments and different sounds. You can be happy rotating time to time your basses (and strings) to continue to feel in love with them. With too basses is impossible is poligamia no one is in love more than another are all only objects and wit one is impossible too. Wich is the right number?

A total of 3 is good for me.2 electrics 1 acoustic.
I'm no pro so no one ever cared what I played.
I used to have an extra electric but then one of the basses was unplayed for too long.

Part of it is the pleasure from collecting. But there's also the feeling of being taken advantage of when trying to sell them. My collection is relatively inexpensive, so I haven't had to mortgage the house or anything. And to be honest, their far less expensive than my ex wife was.

But I hate dealing with people who try to insult me with major lowball offers. I set reasonable prices, and if you just want to pay pittance just keep moving. Hence the pile gets bigger.

I have 3 p basses and 3 Jazz basses. They all have different characteristics. Two Geddy Lee Js, a custom J, 73 P bass, custom P bass, and a 78 P body with J route and fretless Mighty Mite.
I've covered all my basses. Anything else added might be a Stingray.
