Seriously need help with a P bass --- which one???

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to sell my spector kramer and want to get a p bass while putting a little money away. I'm only using bass to record rock/indie music. I have been reading and can't decide which p bass is the right route to go. I see people talk about the 60th anniversary p, glaub p, American deluxe, etc...... So what's the best p for $1600 range?

Thanks

Although i have never tried one, the road worn series look sweet, and I am not really into to "reliced" instruments.

The fiesta red is pretty sharp too.

I myself, have a Squier Matt Freeman signature series with a Bill Lawrence PU, and it is a fantastic P bass, even more so because of the price point.

Good Luck!

If your budget is 1600 just save yourself the trouble of chasing the dragon with this model or that model. Just get an American Standard with the new custom shop pups and you'll be done. That'll leave you with roughly 300 if you pay retail price. What I like to do is shop around and if your local store will price compete go on eBay and find a better deal and hold them to it. You can find new for around a grand. If you want to look used about the same price.

Yeah but I'm ok spending more if it's a big difference.

There's just too many options like I said. Kinda leaning lakland glaub but would love more opinions.
I don't own any Lakland basses,as of right now, but I've never played a bad one.Fenders QC has been goodas far as I know. I would check the Tb classifieds. I've had great luck getting quality basses from my fellow tb'ers at great prices. Good luck!!!

Ok so american standard over deluxe/highway one

How about the 60th anniversary (not year but p bass)?

Any more opinions on the duff. Looks kinda cool.

I see a lot of people raving about the glaub so I'm still interested in more users on that one.

There are a ton of different options in the world of P! What kind of details are you looking for? Vintage? Modern? Active? Passive? Fret size? Fretboard radius?

MrRobert--- I really don't know. I will only be using for recording and only do rock/metal/indie stuff. I just lean on your guys knowledge and see what comes back as a good common bass among you guys.

So really open. Sorry that it's very open :)

2 words, 1 name - Pat Wilkins. Exquisite quality, playability, tone and service.
Check what people are saying here and check him out at wilkinsguitars.com
I don't work for him, just have a custom Wilkins pj 4 and love it.

Ugh I don't mean to be negative but dude, it's a P bass. Even a Squier with the right pickup can sound totally great and completely right for your music. Just get anything that you like the look and feel of because the sound is going to be fine. $1600 means you can get anything you want from a Squier to a Fender to used boutiques but they're all going to sound fine. You think indie rock requires a $1600 bass? Almost every indie rock band used very modest equipment to get their sound. Kim Deal used a friggin' Aria CSB-380 on Pixies' first two records. Whatever you get will be better than that. Any P-Bass or Stingray type bass, at almost any budget, will work great.

I'll throw the Roadworn P into this discussion... You can find them for $800 or less used, and they sound and play so well! If you don't have an issue with the relic finish, it will do exactly what you want. With a good setup, they are great basses for rock/indie music. My 2 cents.
