Set up questions

Hey guys, My band is currently looking at getting a couple subs to add to our current PA set up. Weve got a good deal from some friends in another band are giving us theyre subs, theyre Yamaha A15W's. Our current set up, is 2 old Peavey Active 12's, and 2 Behringers 550W powered monitors all through a Behringer XENYX X2442 Mixer.

My question is how do we set that up with the subs? They came with a Crown XS900 amp and a Behringer crossover. This is probably really simple, I just cant seem to wrap my mind around it. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, it can be a little complicated which is why I draw out set-up diagrams on scratch paper. Here's how I'd pull it off:

Run your left main XLR output (you are running mono, aren't you?) to the Behringer crossover input. Set your crossover at ~100 hz. Run an XLR line(s) from the Xover's high output to the powered mains; run another XLR to your new power amp (bridged mono). Run a bridged speaker cable (Speakon +1, +2) to one subwoofer and daisy-chain the second provided your amp can do bridged mono @ 4 ohms (I haven't read the manual yet). If not, you can always run one sub enclosure off of each side of your power amp.

Edit: Holy cow! The manual states the XS 900 will push 600 watts per side into an 8 ohm load, 2500 watts bridged into a 4 ohm load. You can use the bridged mode but be careful; a modestly attenuated amp is still capable of providing full power if provided a hot enough input signal. IIRC, the Behringer crossover has output level controls for the highs & lows...use them judiciously.

Yes, I am running mono. That's what I was thinking of how to do it. So just to make sure I've understood this right...

Mixer(Mono Out, XLR)--->Xover--->(High Out)Xover--->Left Powered Main--->Right PM....

Xover--->Briged Mono @4ohm output of amp---->Sub, Parallel wired with the other sub.

I think you've got it. You can do a lot in terms of balance simply by adjusting the xover outputs. Not to complicate things but I would also strongly suggest one of the gain structure procedures to set the attenuators on the XS 900. I use a similar set-up with a 2400 watt QSC and two really inexpensive Yorkville 1 X 18"s; my attenuators are rolled back to 11:00 (full on = 5:00).
