Setting goals: Future Amp?

Reading and ear training scales and exercises are the things I really value. I know I would struggle like hell without those assets and to learn them now, I really doubt I'm that smart or dedicated enough wrap my brain around such abstract stuff. Hats off to Feldstein if he can play catchup, but advice to leave it to later is poor advice in my experience.

True enough. If I could go back in time I would get some really good lessons when I was 18 years old--years after i learned to play by ear at 15. That would be better than doing it now.

I'm mostly self taught on bass. Sometimes I see other bassists far better than me making a lot of work for themselves with their fingerings. Even a few lessons a term would help with the bad habits.

I know for sure I waited too long to go get a few lessons. But then again, I might not have known what to do with what I was learning when I was still 16 and knew everything

Check out the Hartke LH 500 or LH 1000, plus the Hydrive - cabs. This could suit your needs.

Or try out the Hydrive Combo LH 5210. It is the LH 500 with 2*10'' drivers. If you want you can get you a Hydrive 410-cab later to get a 610-Stack.

I am a fan of used gear, made a lots of good shots during the years. You can save a lot of money by watching EBay or (in the USA) Craigslist.

I think it is way more necessary to collect money to get a real good bass. Amps come and go, but a good bass is a keeper.

I agree with this guy. Hartke makes great and affordable stuff and also as far a tone ellifson from megadeth and bello from anthrax use hydrive stuff so the thrash tone is definitely there.

I don't think I've used anything but hartke, I even use mine for upright. They make durable stuff, and I certainly gets the job done, my little amp can not only produce the sound I want, but get me loud enough so people can hear it, what else could you ask for?

The guy from megadeath literally gets his tone from running an LH1000 with the eq straight up, and a hartke 810 cab. I can't argue that it's not a good tone.
