Settings for your Gallien Krueger

What GK head are you working with? What type of music do you play and what are your settings?

I have the GK 400RB IV, I play hard rock, I've got everything set to 12 O'Clock except the Treble, that's @ 3 O'Clock

1001RB-II through GKNEO412 - everything straight up to start... then i move stuff... then I move it again - ok.. so I rarely move anything - it sounds really good with everything straight up - most of my basses are active with either EMG's, Bart's, or Lane Poors - yummy!

I have owned a 200MB for many years. And for all that time I have been trying to make it sound right. I love my little combo because it's little - it was the Shuttle before anybody. And when I turn off the internal speaker and use it to drive my Avatar B210 - so nice. But the speaker has always sounded like crap to me.

Recently, a breakthrough. Right now I have all 4 frequency knobs way down:
4.0kHz: 8:00
1.0 kHz: 7:00 (i.e., all the way down)
250 Hz: ditto
60 Hz: 9:00

Because of another thread I read here recently, I now have Master set to high noon, and I tweak Volume for - well, volume.

This is the closest I have come to a really good tone for me. Not sure how loud it would get with the EQ set like this; but I would hope that anyone who is working with 80 watts or so into a single 12 isn't terribly worried about volume.

I am also super interested in this... I play a few different types of styles and can figure out the heavy stuff pretty easily. What's tricky for me is getting my bright, garagey sounds out of this head with my 2 SWR 12-packs -- it really draws in a lot of low-end but when I add in fuzz and delay it becomes kinda' challenging. Suggestions? I am new to this kind of power for sure.

I just got my GK 800 RB and a 400, so I'm not 100% stuck on my settings yet, but on the 800 I have treble at 8:00, hi-mid at 9:30, lo-mid 12:00, bass at 2:00, hi-boost and mid-contour engaged, boost at 3:00, master/300 watt volume fully CCW, input volume for level....

On the 400RB I dial in treble at noon, hi-mid at 1:00, everything else the same, I use both for a metal band, real clanky tone!!

I play an Ibanez SR505 with Lo Riders through a GK MB500 and a GK Neo 212 (horn off).

I run the bass flat. The MB500 is treble at about 9 o'clock, high mids at 10:30, low mids at 2 and lows at noon. It's basically a tilt toward the low mids.

I do trip hop. Mostly like this:

I don't know how much my settings will help. I have/use a Fusion 550, 800RB and 400RB IV. I use the tone section to setup the room and hand position, pickup blend, bass tone control and pluck or pick to play just about any genre needed.

700RB-II, playing heavy rock. Downtuned to drop C#.

Input gain 11 o'clock. Contour off. 5 string off. Presence about 10 o'clock. EQ all at 12 o'clock except Hi-Mid about 2 o'clock. Boost around 10 o'clock. Master at (woofer) 3 o'clock with hi-cut off.

Contour and presence off, 5 string off.

All 4 EQ knobs at 10 o'clock.

Boost at 3 o'clock.

Volume at 10:30.

Woofer hi-cut engaged. Tweeter off.

Woofer master adjusted as needed for volume.

By fdeck's GK EQ curve measurements, this is "close" to flat, except I am cutting the hi-mids also. My cab and playing style add a lot of high mids so I can cut them back down with the amp.

Gain to 9:30
Contour, Bright and Deep switches off
Treble 11 o'clock
High Mid 2 o'clock
Low Mid 1 o'clock
Bass 10 o'clock

I play with a passive bass, I do not use any of the filters. I try to run my master high as possible and adjust my gain and boost as needed.
