Double Bass setup for gut strings

Right now I have Obligatos on my bass and they seem to fit through the string grooves on the nut and the bridge fine. I have a set of Eudoxas that I would like to try out, so will I have to make the grooves a little wider so the thicker gut strings will fit? If I have this done, and I go back to a thinniner string than the gut, will there be some consequence like buzzing or will a wider groove make no difference?

If the grooves are lightly widened, enough to accomodate the Eudoxas, there won't be a problem. Eudoxas aren't that big, (as compared to plain guts, which are quite a difference.)

I put Eudoxa D and G strings on my bass a while back, and my grooves were already big enough. Just barely, but enough so it works fine. You might try one on and see; maybe you'll be lucky.
