BTW, Haven't heard anything about Duke Williams (far right) in ages, but Paul Plumeri (far left) is still around and gigging regularly - he looks a lot more like Jerry Garcia now :D
 
Musicians were definitely uglier in the 70's....

Part of that has to do with the hair and the clothes (no doubt most of those dudes thought themselves quite handsome). The other part is that, after MTV, you generally needed to be pretty to get a shot at a wider audience, although with enough promotion an ugly band could still score a pop hit (Genesis had several in the mid-80s, but they were an already-established act). All-in-all, the popularity of MTV made music a visual medium first and an audio medium second.
