In return I promise pics when it's done.......If you don't get a post soon with the answer for an EB, I can at least get you the measurement from the SGHey EB Club People -
I'm about to start an EB-3 style custom project, and I have a quick question.....I thought I'd ask it here before going to the Luthier forum:
I've gotten hold of an EB-3 bridge PUP for my project ( I like these a lot). I just went on Google to find out the original placement measurement for the Bridge PUP.....and nothing. I've had quite a lengthy search, but not found anything.
Does anyone have a short-scale Gibson EB-3 that they could kindly measure for me by any chance? Maybe 12th fret to the middle of the PUP? It doesn't have to be millimeter-accurate, but I'd like to get it roughly right. Thanks!!!!!!In return I promise pics when it's done.......
Thanks mrb327!! If you have the time, the SG measurement would be fine! It's a short-scale, which is the important thing for me.![]()
No worries!
28" from the center of the nut to the center of the bridge pickup. Figured that was an easy measurement to read.
I require pictures of the work for my trouble though![]()

Ah, its not for me! Us folks here in the club love pictures, and are glad to have you aboard! Many thanks!! Perfect. You've earned the right to pics: and what's more, you've earned the right to laugh at them. I'll post back with progress!!![]()

Hi all,
I'm hoping/planning to buy an SG bass very soon. I've been trying to keep up with this thread, but haven't found an answer to my biggest question (and I apologize if I missed it): has anyone been able to replace the stock Grover tuners with lighter tuners that don't require drilling new holes? If not, has anyone had success using lighter tuners that DO require drilling?
I've got very bad arthritis in my shoulders and the SG is kind to my body, but the neck dive is a real problem. I know I might be able to mitigate it with a big strap, but I want to try and lighten the headstock, too. I've emailed Gotoh but gotten no reply, and Gibson didn't want to comment on aftermarket parts, so I'm turning to the big TB.
Thanks.
Hey buddy, good to hear from you again.
I recently installed some Grover tuners and have some specs I can get you when I get off work
Thanks! Hope all's well. So these tuners are Grovers, but lighter than the stock models? If so, I'd definitely appreciate the specs. At this point, maybe the best option I've found is to buy a set of 4-in-line Gotoh Res-o-Lites, reverse two of the tuners, and mount them with new holes on the SG. Functional, but not really optimal.
I don't know the specs on these, but they claim emHi all,
Thanks.
I would start here

these are the Grover lightweights, they may be interchangable with the factory ones, or at least they will be able to tell you what is different. May save you some footwork
OK, just seen that the above schallers are 50 grams a piece.
Gotoh GB350 are 40 grams a piece.
Guess the schallers aren't the worlds lightest!
Yes please do, Im sure this will come up again.Thank you both. I'll give a call/email to Grover tomorrow and ask what mods are necessary to install their lightweight tuners on an SG bass. And I'll keep trying to talk with someone at Gotoh, too. Will report back with whatever I learn. But CrUiSeR, I thin you're right that the Gotohs are a dead end. They seem designed for Fenders.
Thanks Ron!! Awesome, now I've got 2 good measurements and I'll start cutting pretty soonHere are a couple of photos with a tape against my 1969 EB-3. The angle of the photo doesn't show it, but the end of the tape was butted up against the guitar side of the nut. Let me know if you need better or different measurements. Glad to help out. Good luck with your project.
