Let me share my new bass here, an Epiphone EB-0.
I changed a few things on it: ultralite mini-clover style tuners and a Hipshot bridge. The bass had some minor neck dive stock, but now it balances just fine. Put a set of D'Addario nylon tapewounds to replace the very 'meh' stock rounds and it's a completely different animal. I used it last night for a little reggae demo recording session and it was pretty good. The pickup is not great when playing at volume, but it's not bad for recording, it turns out!
Oh, I vinyl-wrapped the pickup cover to match the black hardware.

It's worn thru to the layer below apparently. I've only put a minor few hours on this baby. I bought it about 5 years ago in this exact condition.
I'm supposing it was a finger-resting wear mark left by a thumb-player?
I have a little mark on a Rickenbacker worn right down to the wood by a previous player's thumb right against the pickguard, it's very small though.
This is my brother's 1972 (?) EB-3. His first bass, he would have been 15 when Mom bought it for him. I acquired it after he passed last March. It's been neglected and apparently unplayed for decades, the same black nylon-covered strings that it had in the 70's, the case cracked open, cobwebs all over the poor girl. I've stripped her down, cleaned her up nicely, and put on a fresh set of Slinky rounds. Now she sings again…at least from the bridge pickup. The neck pickup is dead, so I need to troubleshoot that. The intonation is way off and the action is higher than Snoop Dogg; a truss rod tweak is clearly needed. And the pickup selector knob is not original, really would like to find a chicken beak that looks more like the original.

My condolences on your brother's passing.
That bass is definitely worth saving. One step at the time, start with disconnecting the neck PU and measuring it. That will give you an idea where things stand.
As for the neck, "slotheads" are very sensitive in this department and many of them have warped necks. Sometimes a heat treatment is all that's needed, and other times a reset is required. None of this is the end of the world.

@ghostinthemach that's a pretty EB-3. If I'm seeing correctly, there's no dot over the "i" which would make it a '69. Sweet looking old lady. Colour me interested....
Sorry to hear of your brothers passing. He obviously had great taste in basses. Hope you can get that beauty back into playing shape and make it thump again.
Outstanding! BRAVO ON THAT BEAUTY! I love my Epi EB-0, strung with D'Addario ETB92S as well.
I've just scored a very nice '73 EB-3L. The original 2 point bridge buckled under string tension and was replaced by a Hipshot. Unfortunately, even with the bridge saddles screwed all the way down the action is way too high. With relief set at .010" at the 12th fret I can't get anywhere near to my goal of 2/32" at the 12th fret on the G string and 3/32" on the E. The action in nearly a 1/8" too high. I'm sure that the problem is the bridge, and so is my tech. Neck angle is fine, the nut height is correct.

Hmmm...is this a slothead we're talking about or a very early "mudbucker in the middle" specimen ?
The original bridge in good nick will almost always provide for a lower action than Hipshot, IME. Having said that, I'd still like to know which generation of the bass we're talking about.

Mine is a '73, which is the 2nd year of the "mudbucker in the middle" design (love that coinage!), and hence not a slothead. Thanks!
