Is it only that one amp? Try the bass plugged in through anything else and see if the problem persists

Alrighty, problem solved. When I disconnect the Electro Harmonix Hum Debugger from my board, the problem goes away. There must be some frequency on that particular string/note that the EH doesn't like. Now I just need to get rid of the slight fret buzz on the E string octave, fix the switch, and it will be ready to go.

Whoever designed the bridges for these things was cruel. I can see why the design didn't last.

Re: the bridge: Well, it did last! A long, long time. For a few years last decade Gibson switched to the Babicz as factory standard, but inexplicably resorted back to the three-point a few years later. Weird. I have a theory that one day someone in Gibson's supply chain placed an order for them, mistakenly ordering by the pallet instead of by the item, and therefore wound up with two thousand times more on hand than intended....

The Hipshot is nice. I have one. The Babicz is probably nice. The original doesn't bother me personally. I also have a Dasson BadBird II on one bass.

Ah, the almighty Tilt-O-Matic...what exactly don't you like about it ?

Hipshot Supertone is the cure for that ailment, and your bass deserves it...

My own - heavily modded - '69 EB-0 has been sporting one for about 9 years now...

For those of you that ditched the stock 3 point bridge for the Hipshot.... Were you able to set the action lower? It seems like most don't notice much of a tonal change. Just curious how much better it gets playability wise. I don't like high action. lol

The stock bridge goes plenty low. What the Hipshot gives you is radius adjustment. And a wee bit of spacing adjustment.

With the Hipshot bridge, I was quickly able to dial in the setup I needed. With the stock bridge, despite my own efforts and additionally bringing it to my long-time (20 years, at the time) tech, I could never get a setup I was happy with. Maybe it was just the radiusing, I don't know. But I do know that I had been about to give up on the particular instrument.

Some people, perhaps most, are happy with the stock bridge. For me, the Hipshot SuperTone (along with two other mods I did/had done) saved my SG bass for me.

Before the hipshot, I was getting arm strain issues that I'm super sensitive to from long years of playing. So glad I tried the Hipshot before giving up on what is now my most played bass.

Of course, for those with the stock bridge who are happy with their setup, there's no need to spend the additional money on a replacement bridge (unless you have some other reason, for example, looks, etc.). If it works for you, it works; enjoy

I'm fine with the stock Epiphone bridge. I'm taking care to loosen the strings before adjusting string height.

When I got a Hipshot 2 point for my Dan Armstrong copy, I tried it on my 68 EBO and it just didn't look right to me.

I ended up getting it. I'm in the process of setting it up. It was in a gig bag in a closet for about 10 years. It's really clean. Pretty much unplayed. The bridge. I don't know what to say. It's a work in progress. The low E string volume is really low for some reason. Trying to figure it out. The pic is from the listing.

Nice! It could just be a dead E string. Acoustically low or plugged in?
If you find the silk is ending up on the saddle, slip an old ball end over the string to space it the ball end back.

Frets levelled and fingerboard edges rolled.
First coat of tung oil applied on the maple and lemon oil on the rosewood.
I'll paint the headstock black when I'm spraying lacquer.

Fair enough. You're far from being the only one who feels that way from what I've read on the web.

I have not needed to change the bridge setup on my EBO since I mad a spacer and bolted down the 2 point 40 years ago. I tightened the truss rod a bit when I changed to flats.

I got my 32" scale EB project together today. Still need to make a control cavity cover and put a logo on the headstock.
It's got a 60's mudbucker and a Gibson Decola Tbird pickup.

Many that are accustomed to the adjustments on a Fender style bridge are perplexed by other styles of bridges. The Gibson 3point bridge follows the contour of the neck radius so it only requires two height adjustments. I was always able to set up a 3 point bridge exactly where I wanted things , I like medium low action. That said , I've replaced three 3point bridges with Hipshots. I like the look better. Some may find that kind of shallow , I'm fine with that. The Hipshot is easier to palm mute , and certainly does have much more individual string control.

It is possible to file the saddles of the three-point to follow the fretboard radius. But this is more than many players are willing to do, and I can't fault them for that.

I have two Casadys (MIK and MIC) and I've never noticed the bridge and fingerboard radii are different.
