Ah yes, the coffin races and polar bear plunge. Never did them but fun to watch! Never spent any time in Arvada mostly Boulder and Denver. I'm really enjoying the warm sunny weather here in SoCal and don't miss the snow too much.
Back to SG basses - anybody try any interesting string changes yet? I still have the stock strings on and will need to replace them soon.
I ordered a set from BSO, but they are back ordered from the manufacturer.
Also looking for the Fender flats, so if they are found in short scale let us know
Mine is wearing short scale LaBella DTF 760FLs. Sounds great to my ears and can be very aggressive or thumpy depending on how you EQ the bass.
I put this together with an Epi EB-0 and guild NOS pickups I bought some time back. Though the Guild pickups are wound super hot just like the old original Gibson mudbuckers, they have a much nicer sound and are more EQ'able in my experience. The platform bass was a second with a dead pickup I got for a song, and the neck and frets are great, nice action no issues. It has a very similar sound to the new Guild M-85 with one pickup. I don't know how that pickup is wound, but it seems they were going for the original character of these and nailed it IMHO.
If I start with the back pickup and dial in some fat from the neck and EQ it right, it's really well defined. If I want full on reggae mud, it will deliver that too. It's a fun bass. It's one of my least played and I have thought about selling it, but haven't quite been able to part with it.

Interesting lawsuit bass, is it really that dark in person or just a photography trick? Looks almost dark choco brown
It's really that dark. It's a dark brown finish. It had a badass bridge on it, which I'm considering replacing with a hotshot two point bridge, but I can't decide.
Have not played one yet, but you are not the only person I have heard saying about the tone.

It just doesn't seem to have that thumpy tone to it like my special.Its still got the growl but lacks the thump.I don't know if its the bridge or strings or what.I know its hard to compare instruments with out actually A/b them but it had a definitely different sound to it.Played fantastic though.I really like the new bridge setup.It felt alittle more balanced I guess you could say.
