This is a 5 string SG bass in progress. This is a plywood Epiphone EB0 body and a maple neck with a paddle shaped headstock. I also got a OLP/MM style 5 string bridge I like the black and maple look. The scale is 34"
Here are some progress pictures.
Here are the parts not yet assembled.
Here I have cut the headstock and attached the neck.
Here I have put in Gotoh style knobs and tuned up the bass and intonated it. I still have to finish the neck and put in pickups and electronics and straploks.
Here is the bass with a Rickenbacker pickup and a volume and tone control.

Here is is finally finished. I added a straplok extension and a tub bar. I also put a finish on the neck. This is one of my favorite players right now.
Here I changed out the pickups. A Stingray pickup at the bridge and a Rickenbacker hb-1 at the neck.

Looks like a fine Anniversary Edition. I know I am happy to have one!Here's my 2014 SG Special in Chocolate satin. Not a great pic (crappy cell phone), but I love her just the same!

So those of you with the rattle in the neck pup, what's your magic?

I had that issue, and I fixed it by putting a thin piece of foam between the pickup and the pickup cover (on top of the pickup, but just off to the side of the pole pieces so they could still poke through the cover).
I also used a little foam between the pickup and the cover as mentioned by ih8law. It's been rattle-free ever since.
Oddly enough, I seem to have a little rattle on the A string near or on the bridge. I'm wondering if it's the way the windings are laying on the saddle.
I've tried foam in some different positions in there, must not have found the happy spot I guess.
Those are always fun to find. I had a bass do that once, the saddle was creeping when I played it, slowly moving toward the neck. When it got past the spring it started to rattle. I replaced it with a longer and slightly stiffer spring
Mine didn't have the rattle until after I had had it for about month or so or atleast I didn't notice it until then.I got lucky with mine and it turned out to just be a loose screw on the pickup cover.
SO the foam on the G side of the pup with a little over and a little under is doing the trick for now.'

After seeing your photo I was going to suggest using a thicker piece of foam. It doesn't need to be dense. The idea is to increase the downward pressure from the pickup cover onto the pickup to keep it in place (like a gasket). Glad to hear it is working.
BassDaddy77: You could test your issue by removing the A string, threading it through a bridge saddle or small nut and then reinstall the string. The saddle/nut will act like spacer that will increase the distance of the string's ball end from the tailpiece, and thus allow the string to seat on the saddle above the string windings. Here's a picture that helps explain:
If that cures your issue, you might consider getting the "MOD-BAR" I mentioned above.

Never had the rattle on my pickup or bridge, but now that folks are mentioning it I suspect I'll start hearing it every time I get within 3 feet of the bass.
On a lighter note, I notice we have a couple of Colorado players here. I used to live in that wonderful state (living in California now) went to grade school in Boulder and Lafayette and Jr. High and High School in Nederland (lived between Jamestown and Ward up in the mountains) before moving to San Jose, California in 1973 (that was a culture shock). Where a bouts do you hail from?
