No, that's the only bass I have with Jazz pickups.

fast slapper posted some clips of his bass with the Jazz pickups a few posts back.

Sounds GREAT to me. Once David develops an ATK replacement humbucker, I will also buy one of the humbucking J pickups to have a H/S setup (humbucker + J in neck position)

Subtle (or not) hint ;)

do you have a coil switch on your bass? if so, any chance of a clip with them both in series? theres a little more air and extended top in that clip than id personally like to hear in a passive fender, but that might just be because the neck is in parallel.

Now to the neck. I did not swap the bridge to the neck yet, but instead, here is a new design variation for the neck. In this clip I start off with the bridge (new version) and then after a bit I switch to the neck, and then mix the two for a while and then end with the bridge.

The neck pickup is wound with heavier wire and this version has ceramic magnets.

Having listened to those samples, I definitely think that the SW neck HB bridge combination would be perfect (for me! I have no idea what anyone else would want).

Ah, forgot to re-mention that this clip has quite a bit of highs added. I mentioned that earlier in the thread. I'm running through an Audere pre and I don't have the switch installed yet.

Here's a passive clip with both pickups in series.

20hrs. Light ProSteels, pickups straight to jack, 25ft. cable, GK MB2-500 with bass and treble rolled off to reduce built in contour, line out into sound card, audacity.

FWIW:

that's a pretty strong indication the "hollowness" is originating from a source other than pickups.

That's correct and pretty much what he said. A good set of pickup should sound like the bass, not the pickups.

I don't find the Ibanez to sound hollow though. It has a warm tone since it's a basswood body, so it's not like a hard ash body. I think a good neck pickup should have that hollowish tone.

Very nice! The neck Sidewinder has a lot of the hollow depth that I hear from Abraham Laboriel's recent recordings.

I think I prefer the sound of the original bridge Sidewinder over the newer one. I think it would sound better for fretless. :)

Man, I can't wait to get another set of these. I can just imagine one in the "sweet spot"...

It was the same pickup, I just changed something on it, but it wasn't rewound or anything (added magnets and steel).

Here's a totally new bridge pickup design based on the neck pickup:

Starts off with the bridge, then I mix in the neck, then the neck soloed, etc. Near the end I turn down the passive tone control. It has a .02µF. All pots are 500K (VVT).

Nice, clear and articulate. I like it a lot, especially the very-much-ringing harmonics, the pickups capture quite a bit of 'em. Well done. :D
