Double Bass Shanks Strings

Test drove one in March. Decent orchestra bass, worth a look/listen. He also had an Arvi in stock. I would definitely consider it if in the market for a new orchestra bass. Also had a good jazz sound.
He gets them in the white from overseas. I forget if it's German or Chinese. He installs the neck, does the varnish and setup.
I have the incredible fortune of living 15 minutes away from Mike's shop. He's an excellent guy to deal with-- he will actually try to find the least expensive solution possible.
I took my bass in for a little bit of bridge work-- my G string was too low, and my bass had been sitting in my closet for four years.
He took the bridge off, re-shaped it, and within minutes I had a better-playing instrument. Even with the cake of Nyman's rosin I bought, I don't think I spent more than $20 in that visit.
I will definitely be buying my next bass from him.

Glad to hear all of the accolades. I'm taking my old German 3/4 to Shank's for some pretty serious repairs as soon as I find time for the ride from the Poconos. I'll be sure to get back to TB with how it turns out. I'm anxious to get It back in shape
I can't recommend them enough. Mike worked on my first instrument back in the early 90s. Competent work and honest about what needed and could be done with it relative to the value of the instrument. And he's just soooo excited about "The Bass"!
Even though I don't live in the Central PA area any more, I gave him something to work on a few months ago. Somebody gave me a bass in need of a serious repair that they didn't want to deal with. Mike took a quick look at it and came to the same conclusion I did - the instrument is worth far more than the few bucks it will take to fix up. Hopefully he'll get on it soon, but I'm in no hurry and he knows that.

I've played a couple Cavallini models. They were both awesome!
