Seems to work well. Keep in mind that it only takes one 'slacker' to defeat an online calendar. Three of us are online throughout the day and keep our band Google Calendar updated. One guy is still stuck in the early 1990s (at best) and doesn't. PITA!
Yea, google calandar and private FB page. Tried em both. Theyre both good. Couple guys in the band just refuse to have ANY online presence. Weve reduced ourselves to a 24x36 year at a glance paper calendar. Our gigs are on it, and our blackout dates are on it. It hangs on the practice space wall. Then you take a phone pic of it after rehearsal. Lame, but works. Funny thing is the same guys who refuses fbook never takes a pic and never seems to know about gigs half the time, then acts all upset. Ask him to take some responsibility and you get the ole im too busy with my job to look at pics on my phone.
I'm trying to get the band into the google calendar thing. I set up an email account for myself (easy enough - I already have one for my business), and have asked the others to do the same. Although I use the 'net every day, I'm still old enough to be a bit confused with setting group stuff like this in motion. (My kids helped me with my iPhone, LOL!) Help a guy out?
Question: If the others set up their own gmail account, how do they access the calendar I have on mine? I see the "Add a friend's calendar" box... If they check this, will my business calendar show up for them as well? Or only the one I have for the band? "Import," "Export?" Do I need to give permission for it? Should I just go on google and find a CSR who can talk me through it? D'oh!
I'm trying to do this myself so that the others can pretty much plug n play. They're almost as old as I am.

In my last band, we used Slack - which also has a calendar plug in. Slack works on desktop and mobile and can share not only comms but documents and the like (set lists, contracts, stageplots etc)
We had a secrete spot on our website where band members could click to see things song lists, gig lists and a calendar where they could enter their unavailable dates.
We use Apple's calendar app and FB Messenger. We also actually talk to each other on the telephone. Amazing but true.
