SHELDON DINGWALL is building MY DREAM BASS

What are the black borders made of? Great idea so far! I like it.

Thanks! You know Sheldon never does anything half way. He wasn't sold on my idea of only a few markers, but I really think it works. I'm not sure what material the borders are made of...I would assume that its some kind of synthetic. Maybe its a leftover from one of Sheldon's new projects? ;)

Look's insane so far, and I really like the regular maple fretboard, rather than birdseye, etc.

Thanks! Believe it or not, but Birdseye doesn't do a lot for me. I understand that we all have different tastes, but I wanted clean and bright. This one does it!

No bother, its true, that beast is wicked, making me gas for a four string Dingwall in BEAD, or a five in F#BEAD.

I'm not a fan of birdseye myself either, it can look good, but just not my cup of tea, I prefer a nice plain board anyday, clean and sharp.:)

Brief update:

I'm sitting at work, and Sheldon's just emailed me an update. The first shots of the bass' parts with the color on.

Holy holy holy...I'm stunned at how awesome this is. Hopefully tonight will allow me to upload and post. Amazing....Like even more than I had hoped.

Sorry for the wait everyone! Its been a very long day, but I wanted to get this all up and posted before bed!

In reviewing this pics to put them up, I have to say that they have the same effect of taking my breath a way as they did this morning. If possible I'm even more in love with this project than I was before.

Now I know this finish isn't going to be for everyone. I know that there are plenty of people who don't like busy wood or bright colors...that's OK. :)

I'll let the pictures of the finishing process speak for themselves. Color coat done:

*per Sheldon, the finish is a bit darker in person, as many of these shots were taken with flash in less-than-optimum conditions...

OMG---that is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time.
Man, I had an AB1, and it was prolly the best recording bass I ever owned, but alas, at the end of the day the scale was too much for me(I'm a 'lil bugger). I'm a big reggae and dub hed and I regret that I couldn't work that bass into my thing. No more solid and focused a low end to be found anywhere else. I LOVE the finish on your bass--can't wait to see pics of the finished masterpiece.
