Double Bass Shen Owner's Club

My new addition. Nick Lloyd did a fantastic job on the set up. Just an awesome guy to deal with.

Hi McGryff!

The Facebook Shen Owner's Club page is not the normal personal Facebook page we have but is part of their "Pages" system. If you do a search for Shen then it /should/ pop up. If not I'll post the url to the site once I get home from work. No access to FB from here. :(

Please do! I tried a search for "shen," but still came up blank. Thanks!

I've posted on here in the past year that I was not getting much volume and low end from my Shen SB-150. I'd finally drummed up the scratch for some new strings and so I switched out the Zyex mediums for Spirocores as per several suggestions from folks and the bass has improved substantially in volume, sustain, and tone.

The Zyex had good volume and tone bowed on this bass but with pizz, what I do mostly, the E was weak and died off too soon. They also made a lot of clatter because I was overplaying trying to get the sound and volume I desired.

I did not try any other strings because I don't have the cash to experiment right now and felt like the Spiros would be a good bet based on what I've heard about them. I am even able to bow them better than I anticipated.

It's like having a new bass.:)

I am ver happy to join the shen club! I just bought the SB 300 from hqubed (awesome guy!!!) today. I love the bass already. And it was awesome to meet a fellow TBer. We're pretty great people. I'll send a pic along soon.
