Shielding the cavity alone will not stop hum when you use one PU alone. It's been said many times. Passive single coils are always noisey - Strats, Ricks etc.
However,
You can shield each coil, top bottom & sides. I removed the covers and cut thin brass shields, with holes for the magnet poles. Wire them to earth and replace the covers.
It is quite risky - you might damage the windings, or short the solder connections. Be meticulous.
Or, wrap the coils with conductive tape. Same problems apply.
If you do this, then complete the shielding by replacing the signal wires with earthed coaxial cables eg PU to controls, controls to socket out.
Doing this cleaned up my Fender P. The lower signal/noise ratio allowed me to push the gain higher. This added so much presence to the sound. It was like an active bass, only cleaner.
Or, replace both PUs with 'stack' PUs, which are each self-humbucking.
