Double Bass shim under string in bridge?

If you use superglue on leather it hardens and becomes one with the wood. You can apply graphite so the string would feel just like in a regular bridge slot. It's not as good as wooden insert but it's almost just as good, to me, sound wise, and it's not permanent.

I wouldn't call ca/ebony dust repair cheesy. Not sure if it's great for the bridge but it certainly is ok to do if someone grooved the slots too deep and you need quick repair. Anyways, these methods are not something permanent, it's just a quick fix, if you want something better you just make a new bridge/nut, but for an emergency repair to me it's ok

Its a cheesy repair because it won't last. The CA lump will migrate out of there in time, and the job will need to be done the right way.

As the previous poster said, its an okay fix in an emergency but that's all. If you have one low slot and want to save the original bone nut on a vintage Martin, you can file out a tall, narrow vee and glue in a matching 'fang'. This will give you a way to support the string with a piece of bone that has enough gluing surface to make it a permanent repair. Done right, its all but invisible.

just be careful. i did it with a business card, and it made the slot shallow enough that the string wouldnt stay in for more than about a minute of playing. i thought my string broke, but it went flying off the bridge
