The price is purely between Seller and Buyer. You can sell for $1 or $1000, the agreement is between two parties, and has little to do with the 'perceived value of the item'.

USPS has size limits and I have had various instruments shipped as parts, i.e. neck unbolted and separated from body. The pieces are wrapped individually and go in one box.

Sometimes a declaration of spare parts or replacement parts can obtain a waiver of customs duties. So shipping parts helps with this ad guarantees that you can use USPS.

I know for sure that an EUB cannot go via USPS because of size, but with EB the sizes do vary.

With regards to Paypal, that transaction offers some protection in the way that Paypal offers protection, which is quite good if you are the BUYER. As a seller, you lose a percentage of the transaction value to Paypal. But it is quite good. As a seller you can request a direct TT into your account, though in that as a buyer it is hard to make a claim after.

you can always ship the package as a gift... it won't have any customs fee or taxes on it... I live in sweden and have had 2 basses sent to me as gifts.... no customs fee or tax

Us does the same thing, fex putting import taxes on Norwegian salmon..

Slightly OT but I was wondering if an item actually CAN be insured for more than it's declared value...

Say my grandfather in USA dies and leaves me a watch which has been passed down through many generations but is it damaged/broken etc. It is probably only WORTH $100 but because of it's sentimental value it carries a far greater value so can I insure it for $1000. As long as I pay the premium to cover the insurance amount I want, what is the problem?

I guess I'm asking how do the shipping companies factor sentimental value into their insurance policy?

to the OP, just knock a couple hundred off the declared for the poor fellow, out EU cousins get slammed so hard with prices and you US guys have it SO good... it's your chance to even it out a little!
