A non-friend I will use to my advantage.

I was just at the Stone Brewery last month. There are a few quality pubs around that serve Russian River on tap (Pliney the Elder on nitrogen is tasty), and I still have a Dogfishhead in the fridge just waiting for the right occasion.

I would highly recommend a trip to San Diego. We're microbrew heaven.

As for issues with shipping, blame the feds, not the shippers. UPS would love to have your business, unfortunately our puritanical views on alcohol make shipping grandma that bottle of Riesling for Christmas a PITA.

I've shipped lots of beer over the last few years, always UPS. The trick is you don't tell them what it is. If they ask, you say yeast samples. Just make sure you pack things really well so nothing breaks.

This is one of those regulations that I don't agree with and that doesn't make sense or help anyone so I just choose not to respect it.

What's the stereotypical Quebec beer? Here we're largely fans of the IPA, and lately, IIPA's but there's a blossoming Belgian scene that always threatens to take off.

Labatt Blue or Molson probably, which is our take on horse-piss. As far as microbrews are concerned you can find pretty much any style, and they do them very well.

I shipped a couple sixes a few years ago to Maki after (well after) a lost NBA bet. When I went to the local UPS office, they told me (after I disclosed beer was inside) that I needed to go to the main UPS facility in the area to ship alcohol. Since that was only a couple miles away (yay, big city!), I drove over there and shipped it with no problem.
