Shopping for a tube head???

The TE V-6 is rated at 400 watts into 2 or 4 ohms. 6 KT-88 power tubes.

It will not just play loud and clean, but it will give you some great grind -- although I don't think it sounds great at full master volume gain. It's not an Ampeg SVT. It also does low volume extremely well -- it stays full and rich.
The preamp is modeled on the old Fender Showman circuit. It's a little quirky, but actually is pretty useful and effective.

It's a very heavy amp. Prolly about 50 lbs. I've never weighed mine. Maybe I will and get back to you on that.

It is, IMHO, one of the greatest tube amps ever made.

I have a Bassman 300 Pro, and think it's a pretty terrific amp.
While it can certainly perform at low volume, I do have to crank it up
to get the tone I like from it, and it is LOUD cranked up.

as to the person who said it sounds like a ss amp...
direct me to that ss amp, because I am tired of lugging this thing.
it weighs a good 80 lbs.

Sure it is 400 watts I thought that was the V8 head?
55 lbs compared to 97 lbs for a peavey 400 or 75-80 for an SVT. I can handle 55 lbs with one hand.
KT-88 tubes are a bit pricey aren't they??

Here's two all-tube bass amps from Argentina:

Please note: the prices for these two interesting bass amps are in Argentinian dollars, and one would have to contact Cream and Vintage Electric re their product's availability outside of Argentina.

the bassman 300 weighs JUST about as much as the SVT...it's a tank. i've got a sunn 300t. paid $500 for it. probably will hold on to this thing for a whilllllle, i highly recommend grabbing one if you can. i was on the hunt for a 400+ and it seems that those are even MORE rare...

Oh stop! That's like saying that if all fish live in the water and a duck swims in the water, then a duck is a fish.

Besides, I think God would have a lot better gig than mine.

:D

I would think so too. I can't imagine anyone asking Him to turn down! :rollno:

Back to topic.

The central point made by lowend1 still stands:

The Ampeg SVT is the Old Testament of bass amps!

Tho discountinued, the 400+ is anything but rare.

TRAYNOR YBA200

seriously, this amp is awesome. it has three preamp tubes, which means you can actually get a deep tube tone from the preamp, as opposed to the amps with five, which just seem like they have too much headroom to get that tube growl out of. it has four 6550's which deliver 200 watts, and as previously mentioned if (FOR SOME REASON) you need to go louder, you could afford two for what some of these other amps go for. if you want a little less power tube breakup at high volumes, you can use kt88's instead, and get a little more headroom.

honestly, i have fallen in love with this amp, perhaps partially because i scored it barely used, still under the UNLIMITED 2 year warranty for $400!! try one out if you ever get any opportunity to do so.

really high quality, too. here's a link to a place that ships them for free at a great new price, with full 2 year unlimited warranty.
