Short scale bass with two humbuckers?

A band came to town while back with a Gretsch Junior. Played through a Markbass 210 combo and got a seriously lovely tone. I was out in the audience so heard the whole gig-very impressive bass and actually well matched to the Markbass for a full 50-60s Rock & Roll set. I’m sure it could do a lot besides.

I've been working on a (Fender) Squire Mustang bass, you can find them online at MOST of the Fender retailers. These seem to be ideal for modifying since you need to clean up the neck anyway. Comes stock with the "P-type" Mustang PUP. The true Mustang's are hard to find USED at a reasonable price and in the original PUP configuration. Everyone I've seen is listed as a "vintage" instrument or it has the "newer" P/J PUP configuration. The Squire series is the closest I was able to find that was priced low enough to justify modifying it as an amateur tech/woodworker.I will post pictures when I get closed to finished.

Not shortscale. You could get a Chowby SWB-1 and put Model Js in it.

My mistake. I assumed all the Chowny basses were short scale.

Starcaster is awesome. Heavy, but great sound and looks sweet. Mine has a definite Fender neck and isneasy to play. And it's heavy.

+1 for the Fender Starcaster.
I agree most are heavy, but lighter ones do exist. String with TI Flats, and you have luscious goodness with fingers or a pick with fast, comfortable neck.
